Scathach from Fate/Grand Order (First Ascension Version)

Scathach from Fate/Grand Order

Continuing our look at non-pornographic figures (those reviews are coming … eventually. I did get a bunch of Native figures recently, so I have no shortage of lewd figures to cover), we’ll take a look at a figure that isn’t particularly new but that I received only relatively recently. This character is, of course, Scathach from the phone game Fate/Grand Order, and we’ve reviewed a couple of her figures here already so I think we can dispense with the usual biographical discussion. I would mention that, having weaned myself off of World of Warcraft thanks to its present state of putrescent decrepitude, I’m now a degenerate and inveterate gacha game player – but not once have I thought about playing FGO. I do still like the character designs, and I’ll admit that’s the only way that I want to enjoy the Fate franchise, but I’ve heard enough things about the game’s poor gacha rates to know better than to give it a shake.

A note regarding this particular version of Scathach: Ques Q produced three different versions of this figure, corresponding to each of her ascension levels. According to my admittedly very cursory research, the default version of this figure depicts Scathach’s second ascension, whereas this particular figure embodies her first ascension, and there’s also a version portraying her third ascension. The latter two figures were apparently somewhat more limited in distribution than the default figure, which is why I bought this figure from Mandarake a couple of months ago.

Scathach figure

Scathach is manufactured by Ques Q and is sculpted in 1/7 scale. She stands about 24.5 centimeters in height from the top of the base to the top of her head, but her overall height will of course depend on how her spear is positioned in her hands.

The most obvious distinction of this version is Scathach’s face mask. Her mask demonstrates her commitment to observing good pandemic precautions but perhaps more saliently, it hides her facial expression. The thing I didn’t care for regarding the standard version of this figure is that her face is totally blank, which I thought was boring and incongruent with the dynamic nature of her pose. I think the mask just looks cool in general as well; it gives her something of a ninja look, which I think is neat.

Another difference, maybe less conspicuous, is that her bodysuit is a darker, more subdued color than that of the standard version. In this case, I think both of her suits look good.

Scathach figure

Perhaps more important than its color is the way her bodysuit sheathes Scathach’s body. She’s veritably shrink-wrapped into her outfit such that while her body is almost completely covered, not much is left to imagination. Particular highlights include her navel and nipples, but her body physique as a whole is very appealing. I particularly like the shape of her legs; she has a slender build but she still looks like she has some muscle in her thighs.

The patterning of her suit is also quite attractive; some of it gets lost at first glance in the dark coloration, but the design motif – with lines and silver studs regularly spaced over her bodysuit – looks quite nice.

Scathach figure

One might think that, given how tight her suit is, Scathach’s ass might be easily glimpsed but that is unfortunately not the case.

Here is Scathach’s weapon, Gae Bolg, if I read the wiki correctly.

Scathach figure

I think this is my favorite Scathach figure, at least of the ones I own. I like how she looks with the mask, and to me, that was one of the major draws of this figure. I also like her pose, with her right leg and left arm raised up – I’m not a big fan of armpits but those that are will like that aspect of this figure. I also like that this figure is relatively large; aside from my bias towards bigger figures, I think she fits in size-wise with my other Fate figures, most of which are also 1/7 scale. It took me a while to pick this figure up – I’ve been checking Mandarake for it for a couple of years now – but I’m glad I did.

I’m also a great fan of Scathach’s character design. Body-hugging clothes look so good on a shapely woman, and Scathach’s fighting suit almost looks like it’s body paint, lol

I was torn between Ques Q and Plum, so, in the end I only got Alter’s sweater version… Too bad that Ques Q’s other ascension versions have such a vacant facial expression. It’s probably a good idea to have her masked, although it really is a pity to cover her pretty face.

Many thanks for the, as usual, very nice review and photos!

That’s a big reason why I liked this version, that her mouth was covered up. I also had thought about buying the FREEing bunnygirl version, though in the end I didn’t and I kinda wish I had. On the other hand, maybe she’ll get a bare-legged version down the road and I’ll pick that up instead.

Not a character I know, but an interesting figure, and a nice review. Thanks!

I only remember the unmasked one, this seems the event/wonfes exclusive figure stuff, also expecting this version give alternate head for unmasked face like the standard version but seems not ^^

    • Tier says:

Yeah … I wouldn’t have minded if they gave some alternate parts. I can understand why they didn’t but companies like SkyTube throw in entire alternate torsos rather than making you consider multiple versions of one figure. Well, aside from the re-colored re-releases, anyway.
