Alisa Ilinichina Amiella from God Eater 2 (GE2 Version)

Alis Iilinichina Amiella from God Eater 2

Alisa is the most popular character from God Eater, at least amongst figure companies, and it’s not hard to see why. Since Plum released their first version of her, she’s had one more figure released by Alphamax with another in the pipeline, and Volks is apparently doing a big-ass doll of her, which looks nice. This is Plum’s second figure of her, and while it represents a noticeable improvement over their original product, it’s not without its own faults – though admittedly, some of those faults are self-imposed.

Considering how God Eater is receiving lots of love in terms of merchandising, I was a little surprised to see that God Eater 2 never received a US localization, though perhaps that speaks more to the apathy regarding portable platforms here rather than any qualities evinced by the series itself. I won’t be too surprised if the game receives a television anime adaptation someday; it’s already gotten a half-length short with a fairly distinguished voice cast.

As mentioned, this figure is manufactured by Plum. Like the earlier figure, Alisa is sculpted in 1/7 scale, standing about 20.5 centimeters tall at the top of her head, and around 28 centimeters tall overall, excluding the base.

This figure features Alisa dressed in her God Eater 2 uniform. There are a few noticeable differences between this outfit and her earlier costume; she’s dispensed with the pantyhose and her vest is a little longer, imparting a bit more modesty but still flashing her bra-less glory for all to behold. Her thigh-high boots are of a more conventional type which I much prefer to the flared design of her older boots. She’s also switched out her cap for a more stylish and feminine beret.

But while her outfit is a highlight of this figure, the design of her face will probably be the largest talking point, at least amongst collectors. The promo photos made her look very pretty, with a friendly look and a warm smile spread across her face. Something seems to have gone awry in the design process as the production figure’s face looks quite a bit different from the prototype’s. Her lips and nose have become much less prominent, and it’s not as easy to discern her mood. Her eyes are tinted a darker blue, so that they tend to overwhelm her other features; I think the prototype design, with the lighter shade of blue, was more attractive, with all its components complementing each other. The shape of her face looks different as well, though perhaps that is just my perception; it seems to me that her face is taller and more pinched and that the prototype’s face was rounder.

Are these changes disappointing? For me, certainly; I ordered this figure mainly because I really liked the way her face looked and so I’m not thrilled with how her face turned out. Is the production face’s terrible, though? No, I wouldn’t say that; I think she’s still pretty, just not as attractive as the prototype design, and if I had never seen the protoype I doubt I would have complained.

Alis Iilinichina Amiella figure

Moving down, perhaps the most conspicuous aspect of this figure is Alisa’s chest, which is generously-sized and generously-displayed. Obviously her body looks great and there isn’t too much to complain about regarding this element of her design.

Incidentally, her beret can be removed if one so prefers; there’s a little magnet that holds it on her head.

She’s pretty with or without her headgear, but the position of her hand makes a little less sense without it. Not that her hand makes contact with her hat – a concession made so that her arm doesn’t need to detach to remove or place the beret. Also, the position of her pinky looks rather painful; I’m not sure it’s possible to bend that finger that far back. However, Alisa has no problem hefting a gigantic weapon or keeping her breasts from spilling out of her clothing (one wonders which is the greater feat), so her having superhuman flexibility in her fingers isn’t that much of a stretch.

I like the asymmetry of her single long glove; it reminds me of Yoko’s design from Gurren Lagann. Speaking of whom, it kinda feels like it’s been a long time since anyone’s made a good figure of Yoko, doesn’t it?

Alis Iilinichina Amiella figure

The first Alisa had her wielding a giant sword; this figure has her packing an enormous Gatling gun. It looks nice; it’s painted in a subdued metallic color which looks reasonably realistic, and its sheer size means that it will attract attention, even if it’s difficult to guess how she operates her weapon. A support pylon is provided to keep it upright, and one of the barrels is meant to rest in a peg in the base, but it is otherwise not supported by anything, which means it could be prone to tipping over if one jostles this figure. I doubt that will be much of an issue for most collectors, but for me it’s a bit of a problem since I’m out of space and I tend to move figures back and forth while trying to clear out a more permanent display location.

While Alisa’s rack is highly impressive, her ass is just as eye-catching. That’s a bit of a surprise, since many Japanese character designers don’t seem to focus as much on the backside. Alisa, however, is an exception; when Mos Def waxed poetically about an ass so fat you could see it from the front, perhaps he was thinking of someone with a body like Alisa’s.

Alis Iilinichina Amiella figure

The size of Alisa’s ass is very well complemented by the brevity of her skirt, which doesn’t seem quite long enough to cover her up. All in all, her outfit is really nice; it’s particularly gratifying to see subtlety and restraint thrown out the window in the name of making Alisa look good.

And since we’re well past the point of restraint ourselves, we’ll continue to admire Alisa’s bubble-shaped backside.

Alis Iilinichina Amiella figure

One feature that wasn’t made obvious from the promo photos is that her skirt is removable, just as it was with Plum’s first Alisa figure. There’s a detachment point on its right side where it can be pulled away from her body; don’t try tearing her body in half (like I did) while attempting to figure out how to get her skirt off.

Alis Iilinichina Amiella figure

Her panties look strangely-formed, though. One imagines that their appearance wasn’t a high priority.

Alis Iilinichina Amiella figure

One would also think that given the outrageous nature of her outfit, Alisa might wear something a little more showy, or at least a little naughtier than conventional white panties.

Alis Iilinichina Amiella figure

Overall, I’d say that this is a good figure. It’s a disappointment, certainly, since the prototype looked so nice, but it still has a number of appealing aspects – and it ought to, as Alisa’s design is so attractive. Her design embodies a number of excesses – skin exposure and breast and ass size, in particular, which are all laudable things. The sheer implausibility of her gun is also impressive. So, all in all, this isn’t a perfect figure by any means, but it’s not too bad, either.

hmm for figures I tend to prefer the plain white undies. Not sure why… Maybe it goes back to that Samurai/Katanako figure from Max Factory. They sure can sculpt a lot of detail into plain undies.

As for the rest of the figure I would have liked the shorter vest in the GE1 design. She has possibly the greatest underboob of all time, why cover that up?

    • Tier says:

I kinda like black; black is a good color. Speaking of Katanako, I’m assuming the recolored version will have the same peculiarly low-cut underpants that the original one had; I wonder what color they are? I was expecting Moeyo to deliver the goods but they didn’t take any low-angle shots (I’m guessing some figure companies don’t like that sort of thing).

That is true, the shorter vest would’ve been nice. I like this costume better overall but Alisa’s underboob is definitely epic.

I saw this figure for preorder, and was tempted, because she is a gorgeous girl with a giant weapon. However, after seeing the upcoming DD of her (As seen here: http://www.volks.co.jp/godeater/ — preorder is on the 30th) I can’t really see the figure in a good light. This dollfie is glorious, and tempts me strongly in to the doll world.

I like the simple red set you used to shoot this. Works well for her, I think.

    • Tier says:

Yeah, the doll really looks nice; I have to admit I’m kinda tempted myself but then I saw the price tag and I don’t know if I can justify that sort of expenditure – particularly since I dress up my big-ass dolls in bondage outfits and I don’t know where to get such things for Dollfies.

  3. wieselhead says:

I liked the previous one more partially, the cap, top and pantyhose made her more interesting, also with the flowing hair was quite dynamic. But the new figure adaption has also good points, she’s pretty.

The good thing about this figure is the more detailed mouth, even though they could have added some gloss or color to the lips. The face is nice with it’s soft shape, although the area around her eyes looks a bit too plain, as if something is missing.

I think that the pose is much better and sexually appealing with it’s open shirt and big butt on display. It is good that round figure butts seem to get more attention this year. Ok this figure lets the character appear like an erotic model instead of a fighter girl, but that is quite common in anime media.

The gun looks like new from the factory, I guess a more used look would have been great.
Anyway she’s a nice looking figure overall, I really like her from this perspective in picture “alisa-ilinichina-amiella-32.jpg”

    • Tier says:

Yeah, I really like this figure’s pose as well; it’s a sexy, showy, extroverted pose, which I don’t think is what Alisa is supposed to be like in the game (the concept artwork that this is based off of doesn’t show a smile), but it’s all good. It’s a bit of a downer that she didn’t come out as well as the prototype, but I suppose I can’t be too shocked since I don’t have the same expectations from Plum as I might with Max Factory or Alter. I do have one more Plum figure (with also something of an ass-centric pose) to review here, though, so maybe I’ll try to get to her shoot sooner rather than later.

  4. Tsunami3k says:

Man did I really want this one. I maybe sorta still do but I hadn’t heard or witness the face difference from the pre-production pics as compared to now (likely because, by this point, I reflexively ignore any ‘face’ posts since a growing faction of collectors seem to take it upon themselves to make a career of systematically picking apart each new release. I like a good critique as much as the next person but so much of it is just cut’n’paste griping).

I actually don’t dislike the new face but the original was definitely more compelling. More so, I like the massive gun. I have and enjoy the Plum variant with the sword and I like both of the Alphamax figures but it seems like I should diversify her weaponry if at all possible. But perhaps her biggest selling point is her butt. I don’t know what it’s called: a butt-cleft, a dimple…maybe a pooch? Whatever it is, the figure of Velvet DatassBatrass certainly nailed it and only a few figures really get that subtle feature just right and this one is among those few.

Gah, it’s starting to dawn on me that I’ve come to notice a pattern to my comments here. It’s almost as if I’m trying to convince myself to get a figure that I’m on the fence about, the end result being that I end up doing so with fair consistency.

Bravo Mr. Tier…You’ve crafted a very expensive trap for me!

    • Tier says:

Ahahahaha, I know what you mean … I was skimming through MFC earlier since I needed some information and I noticed post after post of stuff nitpicking and micro-analyzing and harping on things. Admittedly it’s sometimes accurate, and I guess if I were more selective about figures my standards would be higher, but I’m alright with letting things slide if I like the overall look or theme of a figure.

They really did a nice job with her backside, which makes it a little mystifying as to why her underwear looks rather shoddy. That’s a little unfortunate since she looks alright with her short top and her panties – i actually kinda prefer a figure to be wearing a top with panties rather than going topless.

I’m glad to have been of help! My advice is that if you don’t have the feeling that you have to have this figure, it’d be better to wait, especially since this figure is still in stock and is getting a relatively cool reception, I wouldn’t be surprised if it got a good-sized price cut at some point in the near future.

  5. icelava says:

The main problem is the vertical scaling of her “production” eyes. Colour aside, the slight elongation of the height is noticeable and significant enough for a 1/7 figure to appear out of proportion. That was the immediate “doesn’t feel right” attribute that came to mind when unboxing her.

Along with loss of “resolution” to the nose, mouth, and hair, yes, the product has turned out disappointing. The prototype also had black stand and panties, which took some unexplained colour-change design decisions for the worse.

    • Tier says:

Yeah, the eyes look to be too widely-opened; she loses some of that mysterious, slightly more mature look that looked so great on the prototype. Black panties would have been a lot better too, I think; Alisa looks like the sort of girl who would wear fancier underpants. Oh well. It’s not a terrible figure, I don’t think, but it’s definitely not what it should be.

      • icelava says:

Probably not outright horrid production, but I might have had second thoughts about pre-order if the prototype was identical to production sculpt. I really made a pre-order decision based on the gorgeous definitions of her face – it’s like “ah… Alisa has finally grown up now”

When the box came, it was more like “who’s this clown?”

  6. I was tempted since the first one alphamax did was pretty decent but it wasn’t quite enough. Then again, i’m struggling against the temptation to get the DD… I already have 3, dammit!! but dat God Arc…

    • Tier says:

The doll really does look nice. I guess I’d be tempted myself if it were a little cheaper and if my car didn’t need an unexpected $650 repair the other week.

  7. Adam says:

I was fairly interested in this Alisa at one point, but after seeing the production shots, it’s probably just as well that I didn’t order her. I tend to be more sensitive to changes between prototype and production than most and this figure seems be saddled with a troubling amount of them.

I feel like Plum’s previous Alisa had some similar issues. I don’t recall any complaints to this effect, but I felt like they changed the shape of her eyes much like they did on the GE2 version. I wasn’t thrilled with the difference initially, but the look of the final PVC has grown on me over time. Still, it’s distressing that Plum struggles so much to transition a design to production.

    • Tier says:

Yeah, it’s disconcerting to see the changes between the production and prototype figures. Off the top of my head, I can’t recall any other recently-released figures that displayed so many changes. Sometimes I’ll check MFC and see people complaining about the most minor differences between sample and actual figures but in this case, the discrepancies are blatant.

      • Tickwomp says:

Hah, those are probably me. The prototype thing bothers me in particular because they show you something awesome to get you to buy it, but then you get a figure that doesn’t live up to the previous standard. You’ve seen how good the figure can be, so when it deviates it’s a bit disappointing.

I cancelled Alisa at the last minute, but I still might get one if the price drops. I have Plum’s first version and I like that one a lot, so it feels odd not getting this one.

        • Tier says:

Yeah, that is true. Some changes can devastate the figure’s look; I think the changes made to Alisa qualify. I haven’t checked her price or availability recently but I wouldn’t be surprised if she is very cheap on Mandarake.

  8. Rene says:

oh wow Alissa very cute and hot I want her too

  9. yazyaz says:

So, only the skirt is removable? 🙁 or also the shirt? 🙂
