Nobody from Xblaze Lost: Memories

Nobody from Xblaze Lost: Memories

It’s become something of an obnoxious tradition for fighting game makers to release a game, add on a couple more characters and re-release the game, and then add on even a few more and do it all again. Arc System Works enthusiastically embraces this convention, each release extending the already-impenetrable storyline, and I have to admit I have no idea how many BlazBlue games there are now (I know I own three, and I was thinking about buying the most recent for the Xbox One that I bought but don’t really use very often, except I don’t know which one that is and I don’t know if another improved re-release is imminent). I guess even they don’t want to source everything from a single well, though, which is perhaps why they’ve branched out into, of all things, the visual novel genre. Xblaze is a currently two-part series which, somehow, is part of the BlazBlue universe; I don’t know how and I don’t know why, but it is. It’s seemingly incongruous for a visual novel to be tied into a world-renowned fighting game franchise, but then, I suppose it’s no weirder than spinning off into beach volleyball.

My Five Favorite Figures of 2015

The week after New Year’s is the saddest week of the year: the lights go out, the trees get thrown in the garbage trucks and hauled away, the sales go quiet, and it’s months before the next fun holiday. Nonetheless, 2015 has dispersed into the ether of yesterday but before we look forward, I will observe my annual ritual of decreeing which five figures I liked the best from this past year (only a week and a day late). As I always say, the ranking here is based solely on my own preferences, with absolutely zero regard for whether a figure was popular with the masses or came from a popular show or was made by a popular manufacturer. Popular opinion does not move me much.

Preorder Outlook XLV

Happy New Year’s Day, or at least it will be New Year’s Day throughout the world by the time anybody reads this. Personally, New Year’s Day is far and away my least favorite holiday; it’s the formal end of the holiday season, the last holiday that I get off from work for nearly half a year, and of course, it’s a stark reminder of all the things that I failed to complete in the previous year, most of which revolve around this website. Oh well. The usual, annual five most favorite figures post will be coming along shortly, and I wonder if anyone can guess which figures will be on the list (hint: the post is delayed because I haven’t actually photographed most of those figures). Meanwhile, this seems like a good time to do a preorder post, being that the last one I wrote was four months ago. Whoops. I usually try to do these monthly, as they tend to get very lengthy if I write them less frequently, and that’s definitely the case here; therefore, I’m going to blast through these quickly and with a little less commentary than I usually provide. I know I’ve missed a bunch of figures as well, particularly ones sold directly by the manufacturer or those that are Japan-exclusive.

Maya Kamiwazumi from Fault!! Service: Aratanaru Rival (DRAGON Toy Version) (NSFW)

Maya Kamiwazumi from Fault!!

There have been a lot of Tony Taka figures release this year: Shining series Tony Taka figures, cute Tony Taka figures, but in my opinion, the best Tony Taka figures are the pornographic Tony Taka figures. That’s exactly what we’ve got here; this is DRAGON Toys’s Maya Kamiwazumi, the cold, purple-haired heroine of Fault!! Strangely, none of the figure manufacturers seem all that enthusiastic about making a figure of Mio Sugiyama, the series’ spirited, spunky little sister character. Even hobby companies can surprise us from time to time.

Rie Kawai from Lovers ~Koi ni Ochitara … ~ (NSFW)

Rie Kawai from Lovers

One of the things that I am thankful for is that there is such a huge assortment of high-quality ero figures. Not all that long ago, it was scandalous for a figure company to even reveal a sculpted nipple and now we have, well, this sort of thing. There are a bunch of similarly explicit figures in the current review queue but we’ll start with Rie Kawai, who is all dressed up in a superb outfit.

Angela Balzac from Expelled from Paradise (Alphamax Version)

Angela Balzac from Expelled From Paradise

After looking at Motoko last time, today we’ll be looking at Angela Balzac, another highly-skilled, scantily-clad female operative from a science fiction series. This character comes from a much more contemporary series, though it has something of an old-school feel about it.

Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

Motoko Kusanagi figure

Right, it’s time to get back to work. The review queue is impressive: scads and scads of Tony figures, a couple of Asukas (but – strangely enough – no Reis), and a bunch of Seven Deadly Sins figures that I never seem to know how I want to photograph. We’ll start off looking at this girl, one Motoko Kusanagi of Public Security Section 9, who is dressed to kill in her own unique way. One can surmise that Scarlett Johansson won’t be wearing anything like what Major Kusanagi is wearing here.

Preorder Outlook XLIV

I’ve been writing this post off and on for a week, and it seems like at least one new figure that I’m interested in has gone up for preorder each day that I’ve meant to post it. Enough is enough; I think I’ve forgotten to include a number of figures I’m interested in but those I’ve overlooked will get included in next month’s post. For now, here’s what I’m thinking about ordering:

Matsuri Tougetsu from Comic Aun (NSFW)

Matsuri Tougetsu figure

We’re not yet done with Blonde Bikini Girl Week – or Month, or Season – but I received this figure the other week; quite unexpectedly, as I usually group all of my figures into one shipment for the end of each month but I suppose I forgot to do so in this case, and since Matsuri arrived early, I thought I’d go ahead and take some pictures of her. She’s neither blonde nor wearing a bikini, but she definitely is not without her own unique charms.

Alisa Ilinichina Amiella from God Eater 2 (Swimsuit Version)

Alisa Ilinichina Amiella from God Eater 2

We’ll be continuing Blonde Bikini Girl Month by looking at Alisa Ilinichina Amiella, one of the main characters from Bandai Namco’s God Eater series. I had hoped to get this post out earlier but the timing still works out as she just appeared as the focal point of the anime adaptation’s most recent episode. We’ve looked at figures of her wearing her original outfit from the first game and her updated costume from the second; now we’ll look at her wearing something rather more revealing.
