Preorder Outlook LIV

I haven’t done one of these posts (or any post, really) in a while so now is as good a time as any to take a look at some of the figures I’m considering preordering. A huge number of figures have gone up for preorder since the 53rd post so I’m going to limit the number of figures I write about here, as this post would otherwise be way too long.

September 2018

Bertille Althusser from Walkure Romanze
I generally like Daiki Kougyou’s figures of the girls from Walkure Romanze, but I have to admit that the body shapes for most of them are thicker than I generally prefer. But Q-Six is doing figures of the girls as well in much the same vein – that is, essentially nude aside from armor plating on the shoulders and legs – and therefore I see no reason not to collect both series. I have Q-Six’s Celia somewhere around here, and I probably ought to review her to compare her to Daiki Kougyou’s version.

Cryska Barchenowa from Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse
Yet another bunnygirl from FREEing, and I suppose there is not much more for me to say about them other than that they will likely be the cause of my bankruptcy, if SkyTube and Native don’t do it first. I do own Yui Takamura, so Cryska will pair nicely with her.

October 2018

Saber of Red from Fate/apocrypha
It’s yet another Saber derivative, though I suppose this is actually Saber’s offspring, or somesuch. The shorts and bandeau look great on her, and it’s nice that she’s 1/7 scale, as that will match most of the other Saber figures that I own.

November 2018

Asuka Langley Shikinami from Neon Genesis Evangelion
I don’t think her face is quite as pretty as Rei‘s, and her backside is regrettably flat as is typical of REFLECT’s work, but Asuka still looks very pretty. I don’t know that the lance adds a whole lot but I suppose it gives her the opportunity to strike a sexy pose.

Origami Tobiichi from Date A Live
I watched a couple of episodes of Date A Live and thought it was absolutely dreadful. The character designs were decent enough, which I guess was reason enough to give it a chance. I don’t recall any characters dressing like this, though. If the female characters looked like this from the start, I might have been inclined to stick with it longer.

Won Pairon from Blade Arcus from Shining EX
Alphamax released a very nice figure of Pairon a while back; this one from Aquamarine is a good deal more dynamic, with her leg lifted way off of the ground. I’m not a huge fan of the plastic special effects and I hope that they can be removed but otherwise, I don’t have any criticisms regarding the way this figure looks.

January 2019

Dizzy from Guilty Gear
Now this is a statue that I’m conflicted about. On one hand, I’m a big fan of Dizzy and she doesn’t have a large number of figures to choose from. On the other hand, this statue is ridiculously expensive (a staggering $650 plus shipping) and I’m not too enamored of the facial expression used here. Maybe if I’ve got some extra pocket money next year, but likely not.

Tohka Yatogami from Date A Live
Everything I wrote about Origami applies to Tohka as well. She’s got a very nice outfit with much of her torso bared, and a view from the back suggests a tantalizing lack of panties.

I’m probably opening Pandora’s Box here, but are you aware of BINDing’s (An intended play on FREEing) 1/4 porno bunnies?

    • Tier says:

I am! Uhh, if I had actually remembered to buy them, I would’ve put them here. I planned on buying the blue Oda Non bunnygirl (I know that the girls in this series are supposed to have names but I can’t actually recall any of them) but I guess I didn’t actually click the submit button when I was going through checkout. Oh well. I wasn’t planning on buying the glasses one, though; somehow I don’t think her face came out quite as well compared to the artwork.

Any thoughts on the Seven Heavenly Virtues line? I’m not too much of a fan of most of the character designs but I was pretty fond of the Raphael and Michael prototypes.

    • Tier says:

I might be interested in Sariel whenever they get around to making her, if her breasts aren’t absolutely gigantic, and they look like they might be, considering how Asmodeus and Mammon turned out. I think I feel the same way, I’m not as big a fan of the character designs compared the Sins (and thinking of those figures, I don’t think I’ve reviewed a single one of them, even though I think I own a half dozen of them …) so I don’t think I’m going to buy them unless they’re available cheaply at Mandarake. I guess that could happen since a bunch of the Sins figures weren’t too expensive the last time that I checked.

  3. Tsunami3k says:

Are you at all torn about the LE Asuka variant that includes an optional eyepatch head? It’s fairly subtle so I’m surprised at how conflicted I am about it.

    • Tier says:

Actually I am not! I’m fine with Asuka having both eyeballs intact. Though I’d get the limited version if it were sold at Amiami/Hobby Search I guess. If they’d given her an alternate facial expression, I probably would be a lot more inclined to shell out the extra cash; her default expression seems a little bland compared to Rei.

Nice to see a new post!

Tohka and Origami’s flaring semi-transparent skirt design is kind of neat. Both of their faces seem a bit blurred – is that the figure or just a freak of the promo photography?
Asuka is a nice figure but the face doesn’t look like her very much.
Cryska has a nice facial appearance and figure.

    • Tier says:

Thanks! Man have I been so lazy … I don’t really play World of Warcraft much these days (and I’m really not looking forward to the next expansion) but then I got hooked on Battletech. I’ve been telling myself for at least a week that I need to review Mai Shiranui and the Tomose Shunsaku-designed Native figure already.

I think it’s just a peculiar artifact of the promo photos; they do have a close-up photo of each figure on Amiami/Hobby Search and they look okay, though not particularly detailed. I guess the outfits are really the selling point here, or the fact that both characters haven’t gotten a lot of figures, being that they seem vastly overshadowed by Kurumi.

  5. wieselhead says:

That elaborate Dizzy diorama looks awesome!
But why would an apparently really skilled sculptor give her such an lackluster facial expression.

    • Tier says:

It does! Someone asked Kinetiquettes what was up with the facial expression and they said it was because they wanted to show the duality of her not wanting to inflict pain while fighting, being that she doesn’t control her wings. Or somesuch. Personally, I would’ve recommended an alternate approach but nobody really cares what I think so this is what we’ve got. I’m still kind of tempted to buy it but $650 spent elsewhere could buy me a lot of fun things.

No plans for pre ordering Echidna from Queen’s Blade? I refer to the figure that’s coming out this september, from orca toys.

    • Tier says:

Nah, I hadn’t planned on it, actually; Echidna’s not really one of my favorite characters from Queen’s Blade (even though she’s the mentor and occasional molester of my favorite character). I am looking forward to the new Erina that Amakuni is doing from the new series, though. Aside from the transparent hair, anyway; I’m not sure why they chose to do her hair that way.

      • Akoliz 07 says:

I didn’t knew that they were starting to do new merch from this “new series” I think i like this new figure of Erina, more so than her older figures. And speaking of, what do you think about the new desings? Specialy the Irma one.

        • Tier says:

Uhh, honestly, I’m not sure how I feel. I kinda hoped that they would be more adventurous with their re-designs; a lot of the characters don’t really look different at all. Unfortunately, one that does is Irma and I’m not really digging her new look, mostly because of the skirt; if they ditched the skirt I think she’d look okay. It probably doesn’t matter though since I doubt she’ll get any screen time in the OVA(s) and her figure is probably going to come out last, if she gets one at all.

  7. TheDuskwalker says:

Not a fan of the face on that Dizzy either, especially with that price attached. Plus I don’t like her Xrd update to her outfit as much as her old one either. Also in regards to Guilty Gear, you picking up the Ramlethal next month?

    • Tier says:

Yeah, I’d agree with both of your observations; I kinda want to get it just because there will never be a 1/6 scale Dizzy figure ever made again (probably, anyway) but it’s hard to justify dropping that kind of cash on it. Maybe I’ll have to plead for a raise at the end of the year to see if I can free up the money.

Nah, I’m not getting Ramlethal; in fact, I thought you were talking about a FREEing figure for a moment, since I didn’t even know that Max Factory was making one. That’s a spiffy figure but I obviously missed out on the preorder period. Oh well. I am kinda thinking of looking around for that Mai Natsume figure, since she/he looks sorta like Dizzy, though I kinda wish they had picked a different pose, even if they one they used is the one in the official portrait.

How nice would it be if Max Factory or Aquamarine showed off a 1/7 scale Dizzy at Wonder Festival next month? That’d solve that first problem I have for sure.

      • TheDuskwalker says:

Well Ram is Max Factory’s 3rd GGXrd one, so they could be doing more like Dizzy in the future.

Oh. I missed the pre-order too, thankfully there previous 2 GG’s they made (Jack-O and Jam) were pretty common for months after release, Jack-O still is and can easily be found at normal price, so I’m hoping Ram will be the same.

        • Tier says:

That would be great, I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that they’ve got Dizzy in mind. Certainly she is one of the more visually distinctive members of the cast and Alter’s figure got a huge reception, even from people who had never played the game.

          • TheDuskwalker says:

Yeah. I’m kind of expecting Baiken or Elphelt first if they do more though. Elphelt since they did the other 2 Valentines, or Baiken since she’s the newest girl added to Revelator.

Oh, I saw this figure of one of my favorite anime characters up for pre-order which I’m probably about to pre-order. Just thought I mention it since it seems like one that would be highly appealing to you as well..
            https://www.rightstufanime.com/Satsuki-Kiryuin-Onsen-Sanmai-ver-Kill-la-Kill-Figure

          • Tier says:

Yeah, I think Ephelt seems like a good guess. She’s also got the kind of character design that figure makers seem to love.

You know, I still need to watch Kill la Kill one of these days, which is a little odd since it seems like the show I would like (just looking at the character costumes). Amakuni actually did a figure a while back of Momohime dressed in a towel just like Satsuki, and I didn’t pay a ton of attention to it until just a week or so ago when I noticed it really has a big backside. I’m not sure how I never noticed until very recently.

  8. Harribel says:

I LOVE your daki reviews and they’re definitely one of the most interesting around 😀
    Seriously, there’s not many people that review them ; ;

    • Tier says:

Thanks! I do actually have a few pillowcases here still in their packaging that I was thinking of reviewing; maybe I’ll go ahead and do that since they make for some quick posts and they are oddly some of the most popular posts on this site.

  9. Bravo-6 says:

    I am sorry to off-topic that…
Do you have the full pic of tohka of the header pic?
I just cannot find it anywhere. Google pics and SauceNAO have no result.
    Thanks.
