Rika Shiraki from Bible Black (NSFW)

Miyabiya Rika Shiraki from Bible Black Figure Review

Hentai is something of a niche genre in a niche medium, lurking off to the side away from the mainstream. Although the hentai industry is incessantly assailed by critics and censors and region 1 distribution is all but dead and devotees of cartoon porn are a peculiar breed within a hobby that already carries its own forceful social stigma, figure manufacturers are nothing but enthusiastic about adapting characters from hentai games and anime. Even hardcore series such as Demonbane, the Rance franchise, and Escalayer have made the happy jump from 2D to 3D courtesy of big names like Alter, Max Factory, and Kotobukiya.

I’ve found it curious that Bible Black hasn’t gotten a great deal of attention from figure makers, despite its varied cast and the respect it has received as a dark, edgy show with an actual plotline. Admittedly, the plot mainly works to facilitate the raping but that’s only to be expected for a show like that. At any rate, it appears that Miyabiya is out to rectify this oversight, and so we have here their first Bible Black figure, Rika Shiraki.

When the Bible Black anime debuted, it was one of the more disturbing shows around, incorporating bondage, enemas, futanari girls, and occult themes. Nowadays, though, it looks positively quaint compared to some of the stuff out there.

Bible Black has a number of attractive female characters, though most of them serve simply as meat for molestation. Shiraki gets a bit more backstory than many of her classmates; she is the student council president and is ensorcelled early in the show, falling in love with series lead Taki Minase. She shows up again in the sequel Bible Black: New Testament, where she’s working as a substitute teacher. She tries to help out the magic-wielding nun Hiroko Takashiro thwart the evil Reika Kitami, but winds up falling into the clutches of her former classmate Kaori Saeki. She then receives the stomach inflation treatment that Bible Black made so popular.

This figure stands about 18.5 centimeters tall, putting Shiraki at the small end of 1/8 scale. Manufactured by Miyabiya, they also produced a recolored variant for Amiami, but I like this version better; Bible Black has some of the nicest school uniforms in any anime series I’ve seen, and the combination of red, black, and white is very striking compared to the standard blue and white seifuku you see everywhere else.

Miyabiya’s done a very nice job conveying Shiraki’s sexiness and anxiety (sexy anxiety?). Her facial expression is one of distress, her furtive glance directed to the side. My favorite aspect of this figure is the way that the tilt of her body thrusts one hip out. Her body posture does a wonderful job of accentuating her hourglass figure.

I’m not familiar with Miyabiya, this being the figure of theirs that I’ve bought, but they’ve done a pretty good job with Shiraki in terms of technical quality. I’d say that this figure is about on par with Orchid Seed, as far as workmanship goes. The paint is fairly clean and bright with no major issues. Her clothing is realistically creased at the wrists and where her blouse is falling off of her. Her panties look especially nice, the way she’s stretching them out with a hooked thumb. Looking up close, there are some flecks of paint and dots on her skin and uniform, but you’d need a magnifying glass to notice them.

Unsurprisingly, Shiraki’s skirt and bra can come off. Miyabiya thoughtfully includes an English translation with the castoff instructions, although it’s not really necessary; Shiraki follows a very typical castoff procedure where her head pops off her neck and her torso separates at her waist. Her bra comes right off her shoulders and her skirt slides up and off her hips. There’s an extra piece included to represent the bottom part of her white dress shirt; it fits loosely over her body where her torso joins together.

Her nipples are an unusual shade of pink. Very bright.

I wasn’t certain how good Shiraki was going to turn out, given that I’d never seen Miyabiya’s work before, and so I’m glad that she turned out great. She’s a bit smaller than I like, particularly given her relatively realistic proportions which make her look even smaller than the other 1/8 scale figures in my collection, but nonetheless I’m very happy that there’s a figure maker that’s showing love to the Bible Black girls. I’m looking forward to seeing them continue the line.

The only other review of Shiraki I know of is at Visual Fanfare. Curious that I haven’t seen any other reviews of this figure. I wonder if the condensed milk guy has this figure.

nice creation you have there. perfectly done

  2. meronpan says:

ah bible black. good times. good times. hahahah

*ahem* i had a feeling it was only a matter of time before they blocked your site with my work’s web filter ;_; ah well, i guess i probably shouldn’t be reading your reviews in the office 😛

of all the things to notice… is it just me or is that stand absolutely tiny?

nice figure. nice shots. can always count on you for only the best ero figure reviews heheh ^^

  3. Chag says:

I’m sure everyone is dying to know about the tentacle props you used here. Glad to see you live up to your namesake, but what IS that?

  4. Tier says:

    >> davecute
    Thanks!

    >> meronpan
What the hell! I’ve even used one of your company’s plotting machines to do a wafer cross-section and this is how they pay me back ;_; And it is! She only takes up a couple of square inches of space, which is fantastic, since I’m running out of walls to put up shelves …

    >> Chag
They’re tentacles! They’re just some plastic clay wrapped around some wire. I didn’t bother baking them or anything, which made posing them sorta difficult since the paint would tear and flake off (I had to use a bit of rubbing alcohol on Shiraki to wipe off some red paint smudges; some of them are still there, I think). I should’ve also made a lot more; when it comes to tentacles, I think the rule of thumb is more is better. I’ll keep them around though, I’m thinking I’ll use them again for that Sasami Sasasegawa figure; she looks like a happy little bit of tentaclebait.

  5. softz says:

I don’t remember seeing any tentacles in Bible Black. Must be Tier’s creativity huh. Well done!

At start, I got mixed up Shiraki with Kaori. After reading your post, I woke up and realized this figure (Shiraki) is not Kaori. LoL! Blur me!

  6. Halbred says:

Well, the site is called “Tentacle Armada,” isn’t it? Great review, and the tentacles look great. For some reason, they remind me of John Carpenter’s excellent “The Thing,” which is one of my favorite movies.

  7. Tier says:

    >> softz
There were some in Bible Black Gaiden. The girls summoned a demon that they shouldn’t have and it wound up spawning some tentacles and going to town with young Takashiro. Good stuff.

I’m kinda surprised they started with Shiraki instead of high school Imari or Saeki, since they play bigger parts in the story. Hopefully we’ll see both soon … inspector Imari is nice but I like high school Imari better … especially since I know she’s not swinging anything under her skirt.

    >> Halbred
It is! I don’t use tentacles nearly enough. Heck, people don’t use tentacles nearly enough. I’ll make it my mission to raise tentacle awareness across the world.

  8. Steve Chen says:

I have all of Kitty’s DVD (problem is it lacks Imari’s r@pe scene)uncensored spooky classic ecchi. Shiraki here never gets a break alright harharhar. And with good reason, she’s just the princess type who you just want to……….date( dirty minds bro’..I wasn’t going to say that)

Nice figure btw, and the tentacle mods you made, very creative. I was about to ask you where you bought it bought it, but being an “original” work……..I salute your efforts.

IIRC, about 2 years ago I saw in a HobbyJapan mag a “tentacle monster” (yup you got that right) with 4 appendages that was compatible to do interspecies contact with figs like this (especially the Miriam Ixus elegant maido figure), ordered one but it got sold out in a flash (makes you wonder how many of us tentacle lovers are out there)

  9. Aka says:

Nice work with the tentacles Tier. Makes me wish I had some tentacles made up for use with some figures, and I agree, more the better. I think 3 is the absolute minimum in terms of penetration, but you also need some for the bondage, and some to play with the breasts… many tentacles!

The girls in Bible Black are a bit thicker than my tastes, and Shiraki doesn’t differ here. Her legs are a bit thicker in the thighs, but still this is a good angle.

  10. Marcucho says:

Woooooo!!!!!!! she is my next adqusition!!!! wooow her boobs make me crazy!!!!! o dios her lips!!!jajajajaja one question…. has shiraki detailed her intimate part? (puss) ..you know… jajajajajaja i know her pantsu cant be remove but is good to know that detail jajajaja

Goood adquisition… but i feel there arent enough photos i want more!!! jajajajajaj

    Saludos tier!

Indeed! I liked Yukiko too … I think her scene towards the end with Rika was my favorite.

Was it this thing here? I’ve still got it here, though it’s hard to use; it weighs so little that it keeps tipping over when I try to pose the tentacles. I’ve also got this big McFarlane Toys Sentinel from the Matrix movies that I’ve used with some of my 1/6 scale dolls, but it’s still too big; I might look at picking up the Hot Toys Sentinel later on, since it’s a smaller toy.

    >> Aka
You should totally make some up, they’d probably be even better with some of the schoolgirl figures you’ve got … the only schoolgirls I have besides Shiraki here are like, a ton of Kanu Unchous. Looking at my shelves, I guess I have, uhh, Yamato’s Arisa (the Rickenbacker bass girl), that Shuraki girl that everybody has, and that’s about it. Oh, and Kotone Ousaka, I suppose she’s sort of wearing part of a school uniform. I’m kinda thinking about sculpting a little clay larva for her. I wonder if anybody would click on that?

Yeah, I should’ve made many more. I wasn’t sure how they’d turn out and I was rushing along here, since I usually like to get posts out every four or five days rather than six, but since they turned out okay I’ll have to make more. Maybe I’ll bake them next time so I don’t have problems with paint transfer when the soft clay gets deformed.

Shiraki is quite curvy for an anime girl, but I forgot to remark on her skinny ankles. I remember some cultures like skinny ankles; Shiraki’s got some thick thighs but her ankles are very narrow. Actually, her entire lower legs are pretty skinny; kinda reminds me of the way some western comic artists drew comic books back in the 90s.

    >> Marcucho
Unfortunately I don’t think they are … it’s sorta hard to tell because of the viewing angle, but it doesn’t look like there’s any detailing there. It’s a bit of a shame but oh well, I can always use my imagination. Or watch the videos.

  12. Chag says:

Maybe you ought to invest in a few of these: http://myfigurecollection.net/figure/25178_injuu_hanshokutai

I have a feeling that you’ll find many opportunities to put it to good use =)

  13. Tier says:

Haha, I need those. And looking at the list of people who own that, I find this lovely picture which reminds me that I still need an alien xenomorph toy. And a face hugger. Hmm, I wonder if I can sculpt some centipedes out of Super Sculpey …

  14. Steve Chen says:

That’s the b@stard I missed buying! Where the heck can you order them? My local supplier couldn’t back then………darn it.

  15. BioToxic says:

Ooo, a Bible Black figure. I’ve only seen BB:gaiden – episode 2 put me off from watching any others from start to finish. I can’t say I’d ever want to buy one of these characters, but Shiraki looks nice.

When I saw those tentacles in the first picture I did a double take. Then I realised you must have made them – nice touch.

  16. here-and-faraway says:

I gotta ask…have you always been so crafty? Or was your hidden talent unleashed when you began to photograph your figures? Home-made tentacles are pretty clever!

  17. Tier says:

    >> Steve Chen
That is a good question; I’m going to guess that eBay or Yahoo JP Auctions are the only options now. I think rolling your own is the easier route.

Incidentally, I’ve got the Mikoto Shiratori figure; it was pretty cool back in the day but now, it looks pretty bad.

    >> BioToxic
Whyzat?? I mean, besides the impaling and stuff … I don’t really like seeing girls die in hentai. Like I can’t watch Urotsukidoji, since I remember when the girls shrivel up or when they explode like blood sausages … it makes me really sad. Hentai girls are for cherishing, not for blowing up.

    >> here-and-faraway
Thanks! I definitely have not; I used to be sort of an artsy person as a kid, but I lost any semblance of artistic talent I might have had upon reaching middle school. I studied engineering in college and the only time I ever got to be creative was when I tried to convince the dean of students not to flunk me out. Good times, good times.

  18. Sweet, you got Rika’s review up! =D I haven’t been online for about 2 weeks – away on vacation, still am, but I finally have some time to approach a computer. It’s nice to see a bunch of reviews up, I’ve got some catch up reading to do! It’s like missing a whole bunch of episodes from a series then getting to watch them all at one go without waiting for the next episode a week later. =D

I really hope they come out with a Saeki figure as good as this one, I’d be all over that like condensed milk. LOL

Oh yeah, and nice tentacles – I’m sure they’ll come in handy in many more of your reviews. 😉

  19. Steve Chen says:

Tried ebay. Maybe Yahoo Jp, if I can break the language barrier…………

  20. Steve Chen says:

Sorry for the double post……that Mikoto Shiratori, that’s from that inju whatchamacalit right? There’s a special edition version of it in ebay with the “bo” body…….d@mn thing’s so expensive at US$ 199.00+ ……..too much for my budget(well if they make a Native version of a similar fig with Tony Taka at the helm, then I might consider getting one.

Hope you’re having fun! Me, I start getting antsy if I lose internet access for more than a few hours. Back in school, there were a few times where the internet line dropped out and I would literally exhibit withdrawal symptoms.

Saeki would be great. I’d like Yukiko too, and Aki; I like Aki although she’s sort of a strange main protagonist, being that she seemed to be unconscious for half of the show.

Looking at my list of preorders, I think that Shoujo S might be the next figure I bring the tentacles back out for (think she’s due out on the 29th). Though maybe I’ll try to sculpt some larva for her. I’ll have to think about it for a bit. Maybe see if I can incorporate some condensed milk for added realism.

    >> Steve Chen
It is all good, I don’t mind the double posts; it inflates the comment count which strokes my ego, and the whole reason this blog exists is to satisfy my ego (which is substantial). Yeah, Mikoto’s from Inyouchuu, she’s the main female protagonist/victim, I think. It’s a pretty bad figure; it’s really small (the body size isn’t much larger than a Figma), the paint is pretty slack, the facial expression is strange. I got it for around $30 a few years back and I don’t know that it was worth that. Plus the one on eBay looks pregnant; I’ve got a lot of strange fetishes, but pregnancy isn’t one of them. Stomach inflation ain’t really my bag either, though neither of these things turns me off like, say, animal ears.

  22. Aka says:

I’ve never liked western comic illustrations, and your comparison to them makes me think that’s probably why I don’t like Bible Black characters, they have some similar traits to their character designs.

I could see a few figures of mine that could be in need of some tentacle lovin’. Part of me wants to buy this figure though, well, not this one as it’s poorly done but imagine someone good did it. I’ve almost bought this figure a few times when I’ve seen it. At any rate, tentacles are an idea for the future I guess. I hope to see more next time though.

Oh yeah, do I have a lot of school girl figures? It doesn’t seem like it at first, but if you just count the ones with school uniforms as any part of their clothing there’s Asakura Nemu, Himari, Peke, Hayakawa Yuzuko, Seena Kanon, Corticarte x2, Kokuto Azaka and Natsume Rin. I guess that’s quite a few… I wonder who’s pose works best…

  23. phossil says:

Me want a girl like her. Is it possible?? Lol

  24. Tommy says:

Good’ol Bible Black. They’ve got some of the most beautiful anime girls…and their uniform is definitely one of the best looking one.

    Thanks for the interesting pictures.

  25. Steve Chen says:

The uniforms reminds me of the girls from the flopster the Craft. The girls in that movie are all equally ugly by the way.

  26. Tier says:

I’m still kicking myself for missing out on Native’s M-ko figure. I had a couple chances to pick it up for around $160ish but I skipped it, partially because I wasn’t a big fan of her facial design and also because she was expensive. Nowadays, it’s not unusual for me to drop that much on a figure and regardless of her character design, it’s hard for me to turn down tentacles.

I recall seeing some pictures of that Narika figure from convention coverage. I always loved it, although usually the paintwork wasn’t all that great. I forget, did you put it up in your Most Wanted Figures list a while back? I like that Jibril figure too. I was kinda interested in this one a while back, but the Griffon label scared me off.

    >> phossil
Maybe! It helps if you know some bewitching spells to put her under your control. It’ll also help to know some first aid in case she jumps off of a school roof.

    >> Tommy
Yeah, even the minor characters look great. I’d even like a figure of the first girl in the show, the one with the bunny ear hairband. Yukiko and Aki would be my next two choices, though. Maybe if they make a Yukiko she’ll come with an option to dress her in a lab coat and nothing else; that’d be really cool.

    >> Steve Chen
Haha, man, I vaguely remember that movie. I never saw it but I remember it got some buzz back when I was a kid. I’ll take your word for it, I don’t usually go for those teenage movies dealing with occult themes. Like that Twilight thing all the kids like these days. I remember a friend of mine was talking about Stephanie Meyer a couple years back and I was like, “Who?” Kinda odd that I never heard of her since I must’ve passed by her books in the bookstore about fifty times before I learned who she is.

  27. Aka says:

Mko’s an interesting figure. I particularly like the removable cover over her vagina. It’s sort of a strange thing to have a liking too, but it seems rather humorous and unique. I don’t like the character design, but she does seem well done that’s for sure. Would love to see you give her a review though, foobarbaz has, and while his pictures are always top quality, he doesn’t do creative things.

I don’t think I put that Narika on any of my lists… I haven’t seen her at any conventions either, would be interested if you had any links though I don’t expect her to look any better. I’ve only ever seen the pics from that site I linked to. Would be nice if someone picked it up and touched up what needs touching up.

That Jibril is alright I guess… but I much prefer the one I linked. I guess I like the see through swimsuit and removable swimsuit (alternate torso?) but the tentacles win out.

  28. Tier says:

Yeah, the detachable parts are great. I like her salute too, it adds a bit of humor to take just a bit of the edge off of the figure. I think I’m going to keep an eye out for her, although I’m sure the price would be doubly prohibitive.

I’ll have to look around, I’ve seen her on the convention coverage at Akibahobby and Moeyo (I always look for the adult figure photos when Comiket and Wonder Festival roll around). As I recall, though, the samples I saw weren’t all that impressive; I remember Narika was really, really glossy.

Tentacles always win out … I better get cracking on making some more before Shoujo S gets here.

  29. Aka says:

Hah! I didn’t notice the salute! That’s great!

Is Shoujo S ever going to ship? Where’d you order yours through? I ordered mine through some site I’d never used before, Hobby Fan.

  30. Tier says:

I think she ships on the 29th, so just a few days from now. I ordered mine from Tokyohunter; I’ve bought a few things from Hobby Fan and they seem to be good.

  31. Ashlotte says:

I want a figure of the green haired girl with the bunny hair bow…errr…crap can’t remember her name…I remember she knifed me in the game, which I thought was hysterical at the time. >_>

  32. Tier says:

Mika Ito is her name, if I remember right. Never did play the game, but that does sound pretty funny XD I’d be like, “Oh damn, maybe I shouldn’t have clicked on that.”
