Inia Sestina from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse (Kourai Version)

We looked at the querulous Yui Takamura earlier in the year and the petulant Cryska Barchenowa a few weeks ago; today we’ll look at Inia Sestina, the younger-looking, more affable member of the Scarlet duo.

Nanoha Takamachi from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 1st (Gift Swimsuit Version)

Nanoha Takamachi Figure Review

If you want a figure of Nanoha Takamachi wearing a bikini, your cup runneth over as there are no fewer than four such figures that have been recently released or are currently up for order. If you dig big breasts, Alphamax has you covered. If you prefer a winning smile paired with a flattened butt, there’s Alter’s version, which is going to be re-released just a few months after its debut. If you’re partial to the loli incarnation of the White Devil Magician Girl, there’s a couple to pick from: a Ques Q figure of questionable provenance and this one here. There’s a little something for everyone. Unless you don’t like Nanoha, anyway.

Samus Aran from Metroid: Other M (Zero Suit Version)

Samus Aran from Metroid Figure Review

I have to admit that lately, I haven’t been too enthusiastic about Good Smile Company’s or Alter’s figure lineups. It doesn’t take any extraordinary talent at prognostication to look at a seasonal anime chart and guess which shows are going to get Good Smile Company figures and lately, Alter’s been eminently predictable as well. Unfortunately – for me, specifically – many of the characters they make figures of don’t interest me or come from shows that I don’t know much about. That leaves Max Factory in the role of the eclectic scale-size figure maker. They’re not nearly as capricious as, say, Daiki Kougyou or Yamato, but well, when one tires of buying Nanoha or Vocaloid or Strike Witches figures, one takes what one can get. Fortunately, Samus Aran surely doesn’t count as a compromise.

Cryska Barchenowa from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse (Guren Version)

Cryska Barchenowa from Total Eclipse Figure Review

It’s time for Christmas in July, courtesy of Kotobukiya. It might seem odd to release a Santa-themed figure in the middle of the year, particularly one of a Soviet commie, but the timing is nonetheless auspicious as Total Eclipse is in the early stages of its anime run and many viewers seem uncertain as to just what to make of it. Even so, I think most people can agree that the female characters are very hot and are worthy of having figures made of them.

Yozora Mikazuki from Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

Yozora Mikazuki Figure Review

The series Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is an unqualified merchandising success, with scads and scads of licensed stuff hitting the hobby stores this past year. Unsurprisingly, figure makers have jumped right in, with numerous figures of Sena and Yozora either already released or in the works (unfortunately, fans of the other characters are left with much slimmer pickings). Most of those figures are coming from makers like Alphamax, Wave, and Kotobukiya, who are good manufacturers, but I would say that Good Smile Company’s products are generally more consistently high quality. So here comes Good Smile Company; they’ll show all the other makers how to make figures of the Haganai characters … right?

Alisa Ilinichina Amiella from God Eater Burst

Alisa Amiella from God Eater Burst Figure Review

When this figure went up for order, I barely knew a thing about the character, but her exotic, elegant appearance and her enormous weapon appealed to my sensibilities. I vaguely remembered hearing of a game called God Eater, though I could not remember where. Later, I learned that it is a PSP game, which explains my unawareness; despite having owned a Game Boy, Game Gear, Game Boy Advance, and a PSP, I don’t really care for handheld games. I like to be able to sit down and devote time to video games, and that’s difficult to do when on the move, and when I’m at home, I’d rather not play a game on a relatively small screen. There are a lot of PSP and DS games with good character designs, though, I must admit. Alisa is one of those good designs and though I know nothing about her, I had no trouble deciding that she looks pretty good.

White Cat from Planet of the Cats

White Cat from Planet of the Cats Figure Review

We looked at the Cat and Chair a little while ago, and now it is time to give White Cat her turn. No name for her, apparently, but at least her title is a bit more descriptive than her counterpart’s.

Hotori Yoshii Native Figure Review

Any day where one gets two Native figures is a fairly good day. Add that one Saber-on-a-bike figure to the delivery and that makes for a rather great day.

Psylocke from the Uncanny X-Men (Sideshow Premium Format Version)

Psylocke Premium Format Figure Review

A couple of years back, I was thrilled when Kotobukiya made a figure of Psylocke. Psylocke is my favorite character in all of comics and I was happy to get any figure of her. Over time, my enthusiasm for that figure – and indeed, Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo line – has mellowed to a certain degree. Not that I dislike them, but it’s clear that the Bishoujo figures are meant to be fairly inexpensive products aimed at a mass-market audience. However, this statue is an entirely different proposition, with supposedly only 750 limited edition units manufactured and a price tag that would deter most collectors. How disappointing then, that once again my enthusiasm is tempered – indeed, extinguished; this time, because of a most peculiar and most irresponsible mistake made by the manufacturer.
