Luna from Epic Seven

Luna from Epic Seven

I’ve mentioned several times that Epic Seven is now my primary game. I’ve also said that one of the reasons I enjoy gacha games are the attractive character designs generally intrinsic to the genre, and that I am looking to collect more figures of gacha game heroes. Strangely, while there’s no lack of figures from games like Azur Lane, Girls’ Frontline, and Granblue Fantasy, there are virtually no figures of Epic Seven characters: this figure is the only one. It’s a strange state of affairs, and one that I hope is amended in the future, as I think it has excellent character designs, though in my opinion none are better than the dragon knight Luna.

Luna figure

Luna is a tortured woman with a wounded psyche, consumed both by the need to wreak vengeance on those who have betrayed her as well as an intense self-loathing inflamed by the actions she has taken during her quest for revenge. She serves Wintenburg, a snowy, northern nation long at war with the dragons that co-inhabit the region. An armistice leads to some of the dragons and half-dragons – in the game, dragons can shapeshift into a humanoid form – choosing to work with their former enemies. However, Luna discovers a terrible secret and forsakes her allegiance, ultimately serving as a direct accessory to the death of the queen and fleeing her adopted land.

I wouldn’t say she’s given a sympathetic portrayal in the game’s story, which is a little unfortunate as she is one of the faces of the franchise, and perhaps even is Epic Seven’s preeminent character. Her depiction in the game’s third episode is uneven and not particularly satisfying, but I suppose it’s good that she appeared at all. Similarly, her strength in the game is also debatable; she was one of the weakest characters in her class prior to being buffed just a few weeks ago. It’s unclear whether that buff makes her a high-tier character, though I don’t particularly care; I’m drafting her in real-time arena as much as I can regardless.

Luna figure

The provenance of this figure deserves discussion; Luna is designed and produced by the Cerberus Project, a sculpting circle that I most closely associate with the manufacturers Yamato and Flare. It’s the first and, to this date, only officially-produced scale-sized figure of an Epic Seven character. It’s unfortunate that there aren’t more figures of Epic Seven heroes, and what’s even more unfortunate is that this figure is not obtainable through retail; Smilegate produced only a very small number of figures and they only distribute them through giveaways. A small number have trickled into the secondary market, which is how I got this figure, and it’s really too bad that more Epic Seven fans and figure collectors don’t have the opportunity to bring Luna into their collections.

Luna figure

This figure is sculpted in what I would guess is 1/7 scale. She stands about 26.5 centimeters in height not counting her spear. She requires a small amount of assembly out of the box but it’s not too difficult to put her together.

Luna figure

The source of Luna’s popularity is obvious but we’ll talk about it anyway. She has one of the largest chests of any of the female characters in Epic Seven; some say Serila is bigger, I think it’s a close contest. The sculptor took some liberties with the shape of Luna’s breasts; they’re much more spherical than they are in Luna’s character art.

Luna figure

Luna’s outfit comprises a white leotard that ends just below her bustline. Midnight blue armor covers her chest and flanks. She also wears gauntlets and armored thigh-high boots, leaving her groin exposed. Epic Seven players tend to focus on the size of Luna’s chest – which is very impressive, to be sure – but I think the design of her outfit is more appealing to me than her endowment. The asymmetry of her outfit – with her right side featuring a pauldron and a hip guard – adds a supplemental touch of distinctiveness and interest to her look.

Luna figure

The reverse side of her leotard features a thong back, which definitely adds additional visual interest as well as posing a question as to how her outfit works with her tail. Regardless of the answer, she has a fine backside. Her boots are elaborately modeled, faceted and angled. They end in high heels trimmed in an elegant gold color, effectively contrasting with the blue and silver palette that dominates the rest of her ensemble.

Luna figure

Speaking of Luna’s tail, it is broad, sinuous, and not particularly reptilian in appearance. While it’s not covered in scales, it is protected by armor, though it’s not clear how that armor is being held in place.

Luna figure

Luna’s face doesn’t show much emotion; that’s basically in keeping with her depiction in the game, where her standard expression evinces just the slightest hint of an enigmatic smile. Her red eyes are striking and contrast with the cool tones of her clothing, skin, and hair.

Luna figure

Her spear is called Uberius’s Tooth, and it is remarkably detailed. The weapon is trimmed in a gold color with teal runes inscribed on the spearhead. Its sheer size enhances its impressiveness; the spearhead by self is about the same length as Luna’s arms.

Luna figure

I usually don’t talk much about figure packaging but Luna’s box is uniquely sublime. Rather than a typical paperboard box, Luna comes in a wooden box with a sliding front. An outline of her body is printed on the front along with her full name – Luna Bianca Gerardi, an interestingly Italian-sounding name.

Luna figure

These figures are hand-crafted, as this making-of video indicates, and so some allowances have to be made regarding assembly and paint application. However, I think the paintwork is very appealing. A metallic finish used on her armor, while her leotard has a semi-glossy look reminiscent of vinyl or leather.

Luna figure

Way back in the day – over a decade ago, in fact, and it’s a little disturbing to me that I’ve been doing this for that long – I wrote that Dizzy is my favorite fictional character. I actually began playing Epic Seven because of my fondness for her; in April 2019, several Guilty Gear characters – including Dizzy – were introduced as collaboration units. Unfortunately, I didn’t understand how the game’s summoning system works and I wasn’t able to get her. I have to admit I gave some serious thought to whaling but given that I wasn’t really that into the game at the time – most of my gaming time was given over to World of Warcraft and Azur Lane – I decided I didn’t want to take that step.

Luna figure

I began playing Epic Seven in earnest in March of 2020. This was due partly due to me being sent to work from home due to the onset of the COVID pandemic, but mainly due to the return of the Guilty Gear event (and also because Vivian’s banner went up that month). However, I think Dizzy has fallen a bit in my esteem since she’s not been featured in recent Guilty Gear games; she was relegated to a DLC unit in Xrd and as far as I know, she’s not even present in Strive. At the same time, I found that I liked Luna more and more, such that I’d now say that Luna has supplanted Dizzy as my number one favorite fictional character. As such, I’m thrilled to have this figure – in fact, of the five or six hundred figures I own in my collection, this is my favorite of all.

Holy shit, I looked at the ebay sold listings prices. 1100+ USD, up to 1400. Did you get yours for less?

    • Tier says:

Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t call mine cheaply-bought – it’s the most expensive figure I’ve purchased that’s smaller than 1/4 scale – but I paid significantly less than those prices.

  2. Drae says:

Wow! I’ve been aware of Epic Seven’s one and only figure Luna but I haven’t actually gotten a great look at her until now, nor did I pursue such an idea. She is quite exceptional indeed. Really good quality marks for a product that isn’t featured in traditional retail.

Luna’s buffs are pretty much what she needs when you want to delete two units off the board immediately. I think her usage is more prominent and prevalent in Guild Wars when compared to RTA, but she can still work in the latter area of the game.

I’m almost certain there’s no way this will become a reality, but one can dream, right? I want Senya, the character I sold my heart to in-game, to get a figure of her made. That would magical. Another candidate would be Top Model Luluca. So flashy, sexy, and beautiful.

    • Tier says:

Yeah, I was really impressed by the quality of the figure. It would be nice if this figure were mass-produced; that would let more collectors get it (I know a number of people who would love to own it) and I really think it would raise the profile of the game. The fact that zero Epic Seven figures are available for purchase at retail is something I find to be bizarre.

I’ve been using Luna in as many matches as I can this season, albeit with mixed results – though that’s mainly because I’m not a very good drafter (I’ve got a very poor win rate against Maid Chloe teams, even though I have Blood Moon Haste). I’m trying her on a bruiser build since that’s what I default to, as I have almost no offensive speed gear. I’m wallowing in Challenger so far after reaching Champion without much difficulty the past two seasons, and I think my ambition of hitting Emperor probably isn’t going to happen this season unless I want to play a thousand games, and I don’t think I have the fortitude to do that. I’m okay with that, though; I’m just happy I can pick Luna. I was going to draft Luna every game anyway, but the fact that she’s way more usable than she used to be is a big bonus.

A Senya figure would be awesome; I really like her and her story, though I kinda felt the plot in episode 3 got a little shaky towards the end. Aside from Luna and Senya, I’d really like a Judge Kise figure, for obvious reasons. I’m looking forward to summoning for her soon; I gave some serious thought to picking her as my ML5 selector a few months ago, but I caved in to conventional wisdom and took Arby instead. (I also thought about taking Specter, who I thought might be able to help me more than Arby. As it turned out, taking Judge would’ve been the right choice for me; I later got Specter a few weeks after during her banner after using very few mystic medals, and then I got another Arby a week after that from a covenant summon.)

If anyone is curious, here’s my Luna, Senya, and Top Model Luluca.

      • Drae says:

Hey, at least you can have both a DPS Arby and a Degen Arby now, assuming you didn’t already use the dupe for an imprint.

Episode 3’s plot as a whole was for the most part pretty good and straightforward to me, although, I would’ve liked some final dialogue between Ras and Mort after their showdown. The ending to that was somewhat abrupt.

I don’t suppose you’d mind if I were added to your Friends List. In-game name’s Koselina on the Global server.

        • Tier says:

I started building up a degen Arby but I didn’t really have the gear to make it work, and then Rem took a lot of that gear and Violet took his MLDB. He’s a long-term project that I’m not sure will ever get built, especially since I don’t farm B13 all that much now.

Yeah, I think that was one of the things I was missing (aside from a better resolution to Luna’s story), was that I would’ve liked to see some closure between Alencia and Senya and Ras and little Senya. I don’t recall if they ever clarified who Ras was talking to. And yeah, the Ras and Mort incident was a little more anticlimactic than I would’ve liked. I kinda woulda thought Mort would get a little more discussion afterwards, too.

I tossed you a friend request, I’m the person with the Luna picture with the Youthful Spring frame.

        • Tier says:

If you see this, I’m curious as to what you think about Senya’s EEs. I’m pretty happy about them; the idea of her being able to GAB after her S3 is kinda hilarious, and I think I might be able to push her over 20k health. It’s not really a big difference but I like big numbers.

          • Drae says:

I think they’re all good, which is both a welcoming surprise and rare. The weakest one is the buff extension for her S2 but even that one’s completely fine. GAB is self-explanatory and if you intend to bring Soul Weavers or Lilias alongside her, then the results could be catastrophic. And apparently the heal on her S1 is like 25% of her Attack.

I wanna play with them all, but I’m currently broke on Hall of Trials currency. 🙁

          • Tier says:

Yeah, I’d agree with that; I was happy to see that they all seems usable depending on playstyle. I went with the heal one since that’s the only one I got at 14% health, and it seems to be the one that’s most commonly used. I really need some good anti-cleave options and I’m hoping that the heal gives her enough sustain to take out a typical squishy cleave team.

  3. wieselhead says:

    She’s hot!! lol
No, seriously I like the mature woman proportions on Luna a lot.
With the very wide hips and she has a nice butt on top of that.
The figure also has beautiful legs, those thighs are beautifully sculpted,
without the high heels she might be a shorter person, I would not mind.
The shape of the ingame boobs is a little nicer, since they are less “in your face” but that is okay.

Without a doubt the figure looks great, but one can tell that she is basically a skillfully completed Garage Kit, the metallic blue colors remind me so much of my own model building days. To be honest I prefer shiny colors over metal flakes mixed into the color, but the figure has a high quality and I like that.

The armour parts look very well made and the outfit is generally very tight looking, it makes me wonder how she can get it off at the end of the day?

She’s a beautiful dragon girl, I will always be a fan of those smooth dragon tails.
I like the face a lot, I just played around with the Model viewer of Luna’s character art.
Her smile is brighter than the sun, although the figure has a more neutral expression, it’s cute as well.

Overall an impressive sculpt, too bad that she was super limited, I have the opinion that figure manufacturing companies should also focus on other gatcha games than FGO or Azure Lane, there are a lot and some characters are having great designs as well.

    • Tier says:

Yeah, I really like Luna’s physique a lot; Epic Seven (and frankly, a lot of Korean games) are really good in that respect with their character designs. I definitely admit this is one of the reasons that drew me to the game.

The practicality of Luna’s outfit is one of those great mysteries, but it’s funny that you point it out because there’s some actual practical considerations that I have recently had to think about. I’ve been kicking around trying to make a custom Angel Philia doll and I though Luna might be a good candidate (I’m still also thinking about trying to make Dizzy, too), but I am really not sure how to design her outfit. I do have access to a 3D printer to fabricate the armor; I’m just not sure how the pieces are supposed to fit onto her body.

I absolutely agree that it’d be awesome if more gacha games got figures. There’s a synergy between gacha games and merchandise; I’ve recently ordered an Arknights figure and now I’m kinda interested in trying out the game. I also have a figure from a game called Iron Saga that I don’t know very much about, but the character designs are very attractive.

  4. Phil says:

What an awesome figure. I haven’t played epic 7 (Former Azur Lane Whale, still play casually) but I might give it a try.

    • Tier says:

It’s a really fun game! Though I have to admit one needs to have a high tolerance for grinding and massive RNG; the entire game revolves around randomness.

I’m still playing Azur Lane, though that’s mostly because I like the concept and because I think Yostar has a good relationship with fans of the game. I’m kinda hoping someone makes a figure of New Jersey sooner rather than later.

  5. Shashin says:

Nice figure. I might have to look into it. I haven’t really found a game that has grabbed me recently (most recent game I probably seriously played was Fire Emblem: Three Houses, during the glorious furlough period of the pandemic.)

I still play Arknights as my gatcha game, and have whaled is pretty hard (at least initially.) It’s still a game I’d recommend checking out for those interested in gatcha games/tower defense, but I’m purely on autopilot these days.

I picked up New World because a couple of buddies are playing it. Not taking it as seriously as I have previous MMOs, but it’s kinda cool so far.

    • Tier says:

I really enjoy Epic Seven; it’s my main game now and thus far, it’s been more than good enough to occupy most of my gaming attention for the last two years. It’s also kept me from harboring any thoughts of returning to World of Warcraft, which is an impressive thing in itself since I’ve played WoW for around ten years (admittedly, the game might be in the worst state that it’s ever been in).

I’m actually thinking of trying out Arknights; besides E7, I’m also playing Counter Side, which is also kinda/sorta like a tower defense game, Langrisser Mobile, and Azur Lane. I kinda like the character designs, even though I’m not really a big fan of animal ears on anime girls. At least, that’s what I’ve been telling myself, though my thinking may be going through some evolution.

I might be looking at Lost Ark soon; it’s another Smilegate game and I’ve heard good things about it, and it looks very pretty. I’m kinda hoping I can get my new computer built before it’s released but I’m having no luck sourcing a new video card, and it seems like you definitely need a great deal of luck to get new GPUs these days.

Your site is probably one of the most crucial places for artists whether they be graphic design illustrators, comic book artists or character designers they all will benefit from the great photography of your subject matter. Great lighting and composition. Keep it up.

    • Tier says:

Thanks very much! I’m glad my site and my pictures are of some help. I remember hearing from some cosplayers who found my pictures useful in creating their outfits, and I thought that was pretty neat.

  7. Elise says:

Can you take a picture of the details on her back? It is a too dark to see if there are any armor pieces. Need it as reference material for art. Sadly no offical material I can find has her back detailed.

  8. OMG, why am I just seeing this now? LOL
Congrats on being able to get a Luna figure! Gotta say, I’m really jealous! I’ve been trying to get one since they first announced it. Luna’s still one of my fav character design in the game. Do you still play? I still do, day one player! ^_^

    • Tier says:

Thanks! Yeah, I still play, it’s my main game now, though I’m not super fond of the RTA meta right now … I pretty much picked Conqueror Lilias, ARavi, Emilia, and Specter almost every game last season and it pretty much killed my soul. Let me know if I can send you a friend request!

  9. Nyaruk says:

Hello, I have this figure since the last year and I wanted to sell mine but idk how and where can I do that.

    • Tier says:

Hmm, I guess eBay would be the easiest way to do it? That’s where I bought mine and being that I don’t think they are making any more Luna figures, I’d imagine it would sell pretty quickly.

  10. David says:

Can you give us a 360* video around her? I’m trying to create a digital model of her and the angles make it difficult.

  11. Vincent says:

Thank you for showcasing this Luna figure, so hard to appreciate.

I know I’m not the first to ask, but would you consider selling her? Bit of a Holy Grail for me.
I am well aware that this is a very expensive piece. Please MSG me at epsilonv (a) hotmail.com should you be interested

    • Tier says:

Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately I am not going to sell Luna; I think there’s no realistic amount of money that would convince me to move her. But if you are still searching for her, best of luck!

  12. TheMarvelousMr.L says:

Hey quick question. What site did you buy her from? Ive spent 3 years trying to find a way to get this figure and have searched every possible corner of the internet trying to find her with no luck so any possible place I could check out for even the slightest possibility in finding a listing for her would really help.

    • Tier says:

I bought her from eBay, which I think may be the only option now. I know there’s one up there for an absolutely ridiculous price which I wouldn’t pay unless I were a Persian Gulf oil sheikh … which, as I understand it, one such individual actually did buy one of these figures a while back.

      • TheMarvelousMr.L says:

Yeah Ive seen her pop up on Ebay a few times. Including that ridiculously priced one you just mentioned that was sold a few days ago. Its just insanely ridiculous that a company like Smilegate which has made millions from their game just outright refuses to make there figurines available for players to buy when games like Fate Grand Order, Blue Archive, Honkai Impact and many more has had tons of figurines made of their characters easily available for purchase. Anyway thanks for the reply. Guess Ill just have to cross my fingers that another listing shows up eventually somewhere and hope its at least somewhat affordable.
