Scathach from Fate/Grand Order (Roomwear Mode Version)

Scathach from Fate/Grand Order

Fads come and go. Over ten years of collecting girly anime figures, I’ve seen series like K-On!, Black Rock Shooter, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and Ikkitousen have their day before fading off into memory. However, there is one series that has never seen its star dim and that, of course, is Fate/stay night, and all its myriad slash-random word spinoffs. The coterie of sexualized heroines have always found an appreciative audience, regardless of the ludicrous interpretations of their historical backgrounds. A Saber figure was one of the earliest figures that I owned, there is a veritable (and assuredly metaphorical) boatload of Fate-series figures in my review queue right now, and their ranks will only grow in the years to come. I have little doubt that should the universe someday collapse back into an infinitesimal singularity, the last atom to go will be the injection molded tip of Saber’s ahoge.

Scathach figure

The lady depicted here is Scathach, a relative newcomer to the Fate milieu. This isn’t the first figure of her we’ve looked at; we went over Plum’s figure a year and a half ago. Somehow it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since that figure was released. Scathach is some sort of fighting teacher – something like a Marine Corps drill instructor without the cool hat, I imagine – but she’s presented in a relatively more domestic manner here.

This figures is manufactured by Alter in 1/7 scale, which appears to be the de facto standard scale size for Fate figures regardless of manufacturer. It is about 22.5 centimeters in height and comes with no accessories at all, making display setup absolutely elementary.

As one can readily discern, this is not a particularly complicated figure, so we’ll just go over the obvious things. Scathach is depicted in a highly abbreviated outfit, wearing no more than a figure-hugging turtleneck and an enchanting smile. Despite completely covering her torso her sweater is still quite sexy, showing her chest as it does. The modeling of the sweater is, as expected, first rate; the complexity of the garment provides for a nice contrast against the simplicity of the rest of the figure.

The design of Scathach’s face is one of the most obviously appealing aspects of the figure. She’s sculpted with a whimsical look and a knowing smile, and there are a number of ways of interpret her expression. It’s a bit rare for a figure to make the source artwork look clownish, but in this case, I think it does.

There are a few subtle touches that make this figure stand out. The tilt of her head and the arch of her back seem tantalizingly inviting, particularly in concert with her smile. Also, her slightly messy hair adds a suggestive undertone to her look. This is a figure that does a fine job of conveying body language.

It’s surprisingly difficult to get a decent look at her panties, being that she’s not wearing pants. I’d be remiss not to make an attempt, though, and they are definitely there, and they’re black, for anyone who might be curious.

Scathach figure

This may not be the most intricate or visually convoluted figure, but it’s an exceptionally nice adaptation of Scathach in a less violent mode than she’s typically presented. The contrast between her clothed – but still undeniably feminine – upper body and bare legs is striking, whereas the subtleties of her expression are rather more nuanced. Her look is enigmatic in all the right ways, and of course, the technical quality is impeccable, as one expects from Alter. This is a superb figure that stands out amongst the multitudes of Fate-series figures.

The last Fate/ I saw was Apogrypha and I liked it a lot.

…there is this certain urge to cast off the figure lol
This kind of turtleneck sweater is so attractive, great that Alter adapted this design.
I really like the vertical creasing. 6yhQuite sexy how it accentuates her curvy hips and boobs, her butt is completely hidden though. The bare legs make her appearance very sensual

The figures amorously expression and body language is enchanting.
I like her simplity, she looks pretty as she is, standing on her fluffy base

Your pics make this figure quite desireable with shorter thighs I’ve might bought her myself

The last Fate I saw was the first half of Fate/zero … it was okay, I guess. It had a lot of the flaws that I associate with the Fate series, like way too much exposition and a gravity that borders on self-parody (which may be why I’ve liked some of the actual parody shows). It did have its strengths, like relatively solid production values. Pity that a lot of it was spent on talking head scenes. I kinda feel like I should watch the Unlimited Blade Works TV series to see what it was about but it’s so long.

Scathach looks really great. I guess she looks great in just about anything, admittedly, but this kind of look with the form-fitting sweater and bare legs suits her well. Ha, now that you mention it, her thighs are quite long, though I like that sort of look, I guess.

The clothes look OK when zoom out, but too much plastic, when zoom in. Anyway I like this one, it’s softer than the last one, they made sexy figure with normal pose.
I like the background, but I also want to see her on ligt blue background.
Ther is dial graphic, which I made for this site, if some one want:

One has to admit that this is in no way a realistic depiction of how a turtleneck sweater would behave around a woman’s bust. But it just looks soooo sexy anyhow.

IMHO, she could have done with just a tiny little bit more meat on her thighs, but she’s still a really awesome figure.

    • Tier says:

True indeed. I’m quite willing to suspend disbelief, however. I really wouldn’t have been adverse for her to have a more muscular build than they portrayed here, though I guess that’s not really a thing with the Type-moon characters anymore; I seem to recall that Saber was supposed to be exceptionally muscular but nobody draws her that way.

  4. Tentacle Armada Do you have an account on twitter?

    • Tier says:

Technically I have a personal account, though I don’t really use it for anything but occasional whining. I don’t have a Twitter account for this site, though; I’m not really much for social media.

I preordered this one as well though mine is clearly on the comparatively slow TOM boat. I’m glad to see that the figure retains the simple elegance and class of the prototype as the whole point in adding her to my queue was to break up the monotony of my otherwise fairly sexualized lineup of late (not that I’m complaining in the least).

I’m curious as to when the figure foundries master the various techniques necessary to make clothes looks cloth-ier as Scatchach’s sweater looks extraordinarily comfortable as is so all the more so if it looked like authentically woven cotton (to scale).

Either way, she’s lovely all the same.

    • Tier says:

Haha, it is funny that you mention that, since I reviewed this figure to do a non-pornographic figure post between a whole ton of porno figure reviews. Hopefully you get your figure soon; it’s a really nice figure, and it’s always good to see an Alter figure, even though it seems like their contemporary figures aren’t quite up to what they used to make.

      • Tsunami3k says:

My long-running theory is that Alter’s has had an A-team and a B-team for years now. Their A-team bangs out the epic Love Live! figures and others of comparable awe whereas the B-team bangs out very nice, albeit non-epic, figures such as this.

I’d hesitate to even say they were lesser figures so much as they’re intentionally reserved. Case in point, I don’t know how better off “roomwear Scathach” would be had she been given extra attention as this design simply doesn’t demand it.

Mine is set to finally arrive this week so I can soon verify this first hand.

There’s something about Scathach that touches a nerve such that I’ve gotten most of her figures so far. The last think I need is another Saber-class addiction but damn she’s a cutie…
