Dakimakura Review – Nagomi & Sono from Illust Guerrilla (NSFW)

Illust Guerrilla Nagomi and Sono Dakimakura Review

When I wrote my first dakimakura review, I mumbled something about wanting the raunchiest one I could find. And yeah, the Tony one is pretty explicit, as are many things based on Tony’s art. My newest pillowcase – my seventh dakimakura – however, stands far apart from my other ones in terms of salaciousness. Compared to it, Tony Taka’s dakimakura are as mild and inoffensive as 3-2-1 Contact.

I got clued in to Illust Guerrilla‘s work by Shashin. They seem to be mainly a dakimakura-making circle, with the illustrations being done by an artist by the name of NAKA, and they have a bunch up for display on their website, including one of Sheryl Nome, one of Nanoha and Fate both looking very young, and one with one of the Touhou girls. I’m not sure which one it is, but it says “Master Spark,” which I assume will mean something to Touhou fans. They’ve also made a few pillowcases with original characters, such as this one.

The two girls on this pillowcase are Nagomi on the left and Sono on the right. Running the item description through an auto-translator indicates that Nagomi is the bookworm type while Sono is the athletic type and is 10 minutes younger than her twin.

This pillowcase was sold in four different materials. The least expensive is called Vera SK Satin Suede, although I’m assuming it’s made out of polyester like most dakimakura. The next most expensive is called smooth knit, and I assume that it’s less rough to the touch than the cheapest pillowcase. Next up is the one I have, made of a material called Roica. This is a spandex material manufactured by Asahi Kasei, a Japanese chemical engineering corporation. This version is a two-way stretch fabric; it stretches vertically but not so much horizontally. The most expensive is two-way tricot. This pillowcase is over five feet long, making illustrations even more impressive in real life.

They’re sort of dressed on this side, other than the panties that they are holding. Those skirts are really short, though; I’m not sure they’d be covered up even if they put on their underwear.

And here’s the other side of the pillowcase. I think it’s really cute how they’re tied together at the ankle and how Nagomi has Sono’s panties hooked with her toes.

The twins seem to be in a very amorous mood here.

Oh my. They might want to put a towel under them or something.

And here’s what it looks like on a hugging pillow. The material is really stretchy – no surprise since it’s basically spandex – and it feels a bit thin, and sometimes I worry that it might tear. Then again … it’s spandex, it’s supposed to stretch, so I’m probably worried for no reason. Anyway, this is a fantastic pillowcase, and I’m really happy with it. I mean, you get two girls on each side, you get lesbians, you get twincest, you get an anatomy lesson, how awesome is that?

I’ve been waiting for this review. 😀
It really does look quite amazing. Sadly, I’ve been waiting for a material other than SK to pop up, but haven’t had any luck with it yet.

  2. radiant says:

    Woah… that is… hot.
It’s pretty obvious what people would think if they saw this in my room, but damn!

    I think… I have something I have to go take care of. ^^;

  3. Tier says:

I wonder what the tricot version feels like. I googled “tricot” and the info page I found said it’s a nonelastic material, but the item description for the pillowcase indicates that it has some stretch. I wonder if it’s as stretchy as the spandex.

    >> radiant
Haha, I understand completely XD I have to admit that even I feel sorta strange having a dakimakura like this on my pillow body right now.

  4. psypsy says:

    that’s just O_o

where would you even try to order something like that?

  5. Fabrice says:

    O.o wow…..

for sure they will take good care of you ^^

  6. Tier says:

    >> psypsy
I got this from Yahoo Japan Auctions; I am not actually certain where Illust Guerrilla actually sells the pillowcases. They might just take orders directly.

    >> Fabrice
They will! If they aren’t busy taking care of each other first.

  7. Shashin says:

I checked and the Syrup pillowcase I had ordered is apparently 2-way tricot. Don’t think it’s the first 2WT I have, but it is my favorite in terms of feel. It does have a decent amount of stretch to it, and was quite easy to get on the pillow. I think I’ll eventually order a 160×50 pillow as I’m starting to notice the extra slack you were talking about on the bottom with my 150×50 pillow. As far as the feel, I wouldn’t know the best way to describe it; it’s almost silky in feel, just very smooth against the skin.

  8. Tier says:

I wonder if my pillow is a bit fatter than Japanese pillow bodies since it took some effort to get this pillowcase on, even with its stretchiness. That was probably the part that concerned me the most since I was standing on a chair while trying to tug the pillowcase over the pillow body and it stretched out quite a bit. I might get a second body sometime, although I’ll probably stick to the local Bed Bath & Beyond products instead of importing a Cospa one, just because I’m really cheap like that.

  9. Shashin says:

I can understand where you’re coming from, but yet at the same time I can’t help but laugh at your situation. Willing to spend a good deal over $100 on (multiple) pillowcase(s), yet not going the distance for a pillow that will properly fit it. I really can’t blame you though, especially if you still don’t have the space to have the pillow out full time.

Personally, I used a lot of pillows in the past. 2-3 to plop up my head, 1-2 in between the legs/feet if I was sleeping in my side, and generally just a few extra all around. The Cospa pillow I picked up is quite comfortable, and since I started using it, I haven’t used a single other pillow. I’ve had other body pillows in the past, but always kept some other pillows around.

My spending habits are kinda strange. I still haven’t bought a PS3 even though there are a few PS3 games I’d like to play and I wouldn’t mind have a Blu-ray player, but I have zero problem buying multiple $200 figures. I don’t really like eating out, to the point that I will go to the supermarket and buy a $5 bucket of fried chicken because it lasts me three meals and is thus far more economical than buying a $6 #10 meal at Wendy’s (I eat out at restaurants every now and then but I regard that as an even more frightful waste of money). On the other hand, I shell out for EMS shipping for almost everything I buy; I’ve probably spent over a thousand dollars just on postage in the last year.

I feel really uncomfortable without having a lot of pillows. Whenever I went home while I was in college, I’d always have to bring home all my pillows because it’s hard for me to sleep without three pillows.

    >> phossil
Indeed it is! Or they are.

    >> marcucho
Thanks! When I started this blog, I never thought that I’d become a role model.

Everyone ought to have a dakimakura like this; the world would be a much happier place if that happened.

  14. Shashin says:

Yeah, that’s understandable. My video game spending has been cut to nothing since I’ve gotten into this hobby, despite there being a lot of games I want to pick up (as well as a PSP.) As far as eating out goes, I should take a page from your book, as I do far too much of it. Though I tend to go to sit down restaurants for my Korean or Thai fix, and order off the dollar menu for fast food. It’s still killing my wallet and my health, though. I’m with you on the EMS, I know I’ve spent at least that (large part due to those books I ordered.) I’ve recently done some SAL shipments, but it was for one item on a Hobby Search order where all the other items got pushed back a month. Couldn’t see paying EMS for one item.

Yeah, I’m quite similar with my pillows. Despite all of my needs being met by my dakimakura, I still haven’t thrown away any of my other pillows, even the ones that are a bit ragged.

Also, I agree 100% about everyone owning a dakimakura such as this. Or just a couple dakimakura in general. They’re one of simple joys in life.

  15. GREW says:

    OH ROFL!

There is no need to say more.

  16. BioToxic says:

Oh, wow! That’s, eh, yeah. The “clothed” side is graphic enough, then you flip over and …

On first glance it looked like 3 mouths – I couldn’t work out what the 3rd was meant to be.

Looks like they changed their pants. Purple for tying each other up, Blue(white?) for regular use?

I need to buy new shoes since one of them has a huge hole in the heel. Normally that’s not a problem but when it rains, my sock gets wet, which is annoying, and I suppose it also looks sort of strange. I’m so cheap that I don’t really feel like buying new kicks; they’ve lasted eight years so far, I think I can get a year or two more out of them.

I wonder if my mom has a recipe for budae jigae.

    >> GREW
Indeed! The pictures speak for themselves.

    >> BioToxic
Yeah, when I first saw the picture on the website I wasn’t actually sure what I was looking at. When I realized what it was, I knew I had to have this pillowcase.

I guess white/blue is for school and purple is for fun time? Along with the cuffs, it looks like.

  18. Shashin says:

Heh, I usually let me shoes get a couple years of wear too. Hell, any clothing item I tend to wear until it’s unfit for public, and then even then I may still wear it around the house if it’s still comfortable; if not I could use it for rags and such.

I haven’t had a chance to try that, nor do I have anyone I could go to for recipes, really. I did however make kimchi and kimchi jigae a few weeks back from a recipe I found online.

  19. dryden says:

haha, thats pretty amazing and hot!
only reason why i still dont have a dakimakura like this yet are my family and friends lol. they’re thinking strange of me cuz of my big figure harem… if they would see this they would think im a completly weirdo xD

even though i think, it wont take long before i’ll fall for them too, like with the figures ;p

  20. Tier says:

    >> Shashin
I’ve never developed a taste for kimchi, something that my mom always laments. I’m just not really a big fan of vegetables.

    >> dryden
They probably would! On the other hand, if they already think you are some wacko pervert, you may as well go all in. They’re your friends and family, they’ll still love you even if you have a big-ass pillow with a picture of a naked girl on it. Well, maybe they won’t, people can be strange sometimes.

  21. Shashin says:

I’m quite fond of it. Luckily I have a rather adventurous sense when it comes to food; I like to try new things. Not that I’d consider kimchi adventurous by any means now, but ten years ago when I hadn’t even tried Korean food might have been another story. And personally, I’m a big meat eater. I’ll eat anything as long as it comes with a side of meat.

You know, I don’t think I’d really care all that much if my family learned of my interests (or the amount of money I’ve spent on cartoon porn pillowcases), but I’m most certainly not going to jump out and tell them. I could understand people avoiding purchasing them for that every reason, if they don’t have assurances to their privacy. Hell, the couple of times I’ve had people over, I just covered up my pillow with a blanket and avoided any suspicion.

  22. Tier says:

I’m a big wimp when it comes to trying out new stuff; I usually always get the same thing over and over again. When I get lunch at work, I always go to either Wendy’s and get the #10 meal or to the supermarket to get a tray of sushi. I’m much more adventurous when I cook for myself (sometimes with horrific and entirely inedible results) but if someone else is preparing the food, I stick to what I know I like.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I feel. I share my perversity with my friends, though; I’ve gotten a couple of them hooked on my fondness for maggot-birthing hentai. I just keep my bedroom door closed if family happen to be around, though.

  23. Shashin says:

Heh, I’m the complete opposite, granted I do have my favorites when it comes to food. I’ll usually order the same thing out if it’s something I really like, but if I have the money or am feeding more than myself, I’ll usually order a second item I haven’t tried before. Grocery store sushi, eh? Granted it isn’t bad if it’s fresh, but I still can’t imagine myself eating it on a regular basis. And once again, the opposite when it comes to cooking. I’ll pull up a new recipe online every now and then for something I want to try or if I’m in the mood for something different, and I’ll occasionally create some unique sauce/vegetable combinations for stir fry, but generally I stick to a nice collection of staples that I cycle through.

You know, can’t say I’ve ever gotten into maggot-birthing all that much. Guess I’m more for alien objects going into the body, rather than coming out.

  24. Tekka says:

    Hey Tier,

I just bought my first Dakimakura. I bought it on my trip to Japan and I just brought it back home and opened it; only to find that there is a dirt stain on it.

What is your suggestion in order to clean it? The pillow cover feels very soft and I am afraid I’ll damage it by washing it.

    Any tips are greatly appreciated!

  25. Tier says:

    >> Shashin
Yeah, grocery store sushi … it’s fresh, though admittedly not fantastic. It makes a nice change from the cold cut sandwiches I usually eat, though.

I want to try steak tartare one of these days. I’m kinda lazy when it comes to preparation, though; I don’t have a meat grinder and I dunno if I have enough patience to chop the meat up finely enough.

I am all for both ways. I need to find more monster doujinshi.

    >> Tekka
Congrats on your fine purchase! Hmm, I’ve never actually washed any of my pillowcases (they stay relatively clean since I don’t actually touch them very much). I think most dakimakura are made of polyester, though, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to clean. I looked through some websites on washing polyester and it seems like you can just wash it normally with some laundry detergent in cold or warm water, and then air dry it (or you could toss it in the washing machine and then dry it under low heat). You might want to check the label to see what the pillowcase is made of; polyester in Japanese is ポリエステル I think.

  26. Blowfish says:

Haha you make me very proud!

On a serious note didnt you have nightmares that Customs might check the content of your shipment?
Wasnt there alot of brouhahah about this kind astuff in teh US lately?

  27. Tier says:

Yeah, there was a high-profile trial (Handley case, if I remember right) … he got caught with loli porn though, I think other kinds of porn are okay to send through the mail but they go after anything that looks like kids and sex, I think.

  28. Shashin says:

Yeah, that seems to be the case. Granted we don’t know what other types of things might have gotten pass customs, but Handley got caught with an entire package of some pretty hardcore loli. Technically they could go after things like this, as it’s Obscenity law and not child porn that Handley was charged with. sure a judge/jury somewhere might find the content obscene, but I’d say you’re relatively safe unless you’re importing boatloads of loli or in some ultraconservative area.

I’ve tried to keep up with the whole issue, and even look back at similar cases. The entire thing both fascinates me and angers me beyond belief. I could understand it to an extent and loli really isn’t my thing, but the whole thing is ludicrous.

  29. Tekka says:

Thanks for getting back to me Tier and sorry for the late reply!

I got it cleaned! Thing is when I purchased it, the fabric came with a stain. But I was able to remove it with cold water and rubbing the stain with a sponge.

So I went out to buy a pillow for the dakimakura case, but was only able to find a 20×54 size. Looks like a 20×60 is very hard to come by. So for now its okay but I will keep on looking to see if I stumble upon a 20×60 sized pillow.

Again, thanks for the info and great site! You actually convinced me to buy one and I’m happy I did haha!

PS- I bought an Eva bed sheet to match the dakimakura.

  30. Tier says:

    >> Shashin
I recall reading it was really raunchy stuff. Like bestiality and such (don’t really see the problem with it myself, but ehh). I’m planning on making a doujinshi purchase myself and I’m wondering how far I can get with getting books that have covers with characters who do not completely exhibit obvious secondary sexual characteristics >.>

On a side note, I very recently learned of a movie titled “The Human Centipede” and I’m sure that I’m the last person on the planet to hear about it, but I’m wondering how that’s not obscene while some porno comic books are.

    >> Tekka
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I think that if you want a 20×60 pillow, you’ll either have to stuff some padding into the bottom of the pillow or import one from a Japanese retailer. Congrats on the bedsheet purchase too!

  31. Shashin says:

There was a published list of the comics he was being prosecuted for. If you’re interested, I’m sure you could find them online without too much trouble. Hell, I know the first thing I did when I saw the list published was pull up the cover image to all of them.

That’s part of the reason this is all so crazy. I guess technically they could also prosecute people who download the material, as Handley wasn’t prosecuted for owning the materials, but transporting them between borders, and an overzealous prosecutor could argue that the Internet is allowing you to do just that.

I’ve heard of the movie, and want to watch it eventually just to laugh at the ass-to-mouth scenes and jokes that I’m sure can stem from it. But you have a point. I realize that American society places quite a lot of safeguards on protecting children and I don’t disagree with most of them in place. However, to make a broad and sweeping category on materials that are disallowed, when it includes drawings that are often quite far from reality and haven’t harmed a soul, is just ridiculous.

It also brings up another point that you touched upon. Yes, our society puts a lot effort into protecting children, but when someone can get prosecuted for drawings, yet someone who makes a movie where nothing happens expect for people getting (graphically) tortured during the entire duration… I don’t know, something just doesn’t add up to me there. Ideally, no one would be prosecuted for either, but to me the second is quite a bit worse than the first.

  32. Tier says:

I went and looked up those books. Gee, they don’t really look all that bad to me. The covers, anyway. Now I’m a bit more concerned about all the stuff that I buy. There was this one doujinshi I was thinking of getting but the cover character looks really underage and now I don’t know if I want to buy it.

I’m not really a big fan of gory stuff; a friend of mine loves torture porn movies like Saw but me, I really don’t like seeing blood all that much. I don’t really get why sexual activity is highly regulated while torture porn is not (I’m suspecting religious influence), but I know that question has been raised by thousands of people so I guess I won’t belabor the point.

  33. Shashin says:

Yeah, I’ve definitely seen worse. Though I’d imagine it was mostly loli rape on the inside, I’ve still seen worse. I think the bad thing for me is I base a lot of my purchases entirely on the cover. I’ve picked up a few that had a very appetizing cover, only to find stuff I wouldn’t even consider picking up on the inside. Of course I’d do well to avoid things like Comic LO, but even then quite a few comics could have loli in them without the cover giving that away.

I don’t mind blood and violence, and all the stuff that goes with it, but it’s pretty disgusting that the Saw series has something like seven movies. The first one was actually pretty decent, but past that they just kept trying to one up their grotesueity. And I just made up a word. Worse yet, Hostel offers absolutely no redeeming features, and is almost entirely torture porn.

I don’t understand how people enjoy that shit, but I’m not going to judge them. And that’s what pisses me off. People are prosecuted for loli, and I’m sure quite a few assume that they’re pedophiles. Yet you don’t automatically assume that the people who go watch Saw/Hostel have someone locked up in their basement that they’re slowly cutting away. Neither has any scientific basis for thinking the worst, and yet most do for first topic.

  34. Tier says:

So do I … I buy a lot of American comics purely off of the cover too (not really a smart thing to do being that the series penciller doesn’t always do the cover). It’s one of the things that makes me wary about getting doujinshi from circles I’m not familiar with; if I get a book with a really hot cover and then find out that it’s packed full of explosive scat or futanari or something, I’m going to be very disappointed.

I’ll admit that I enjoy reading the plot summaries for the Saw movies but I have absolutely no desire to see them or Hostel or any similar flicks. Torture porn just isn’t really my thing. Which is funny because I used to enjoy writing torture porn stories as a kid.

Yeah, that annoys the hell out of me. It also annoys me that it’d be very hard to get any prominent advocates to champion this cause since it’s so radioactive. I’m just going to be careful about what I get through the mail, I guess.

  35. Tommy says:

I haven’t been around for a couple months and you’ve one upped your previous purchase. So are you satisfied with this one or are you still in search of something raunchier?

  36. Tier says:

I think I’m pretty satisfied with this one; I’m not even sure what a raunchier one than this would look like (though I have full confidence that dakimakura makers have a wilder imagination than I!). You’d almost need an X-ray machine to get a further look inside the girl.

Actually, if I could get one with some tentacles, I’d totally go for that. I remember there was one with one of the Jibril girls (Aries, I think) that had some tentacles, but it was strictly softcore and the girl was a bit younger than I like, so I skipped it. Something like, older Fate Testarossa (Harlaown, I guess) and tentacles, that would be excellent.

  37. Tommy says:

I think it’d be easier to find one of the Bible Black girls with tentacles…though you never know with this biz.

  38. Tier says:

Yeah, I’m sure it would … though I haven’t seen many dakimakura with tentacles at all. I’ve seen some good Fate Testarossa ones though! Actually, my next dakimakura might not even be pornographic at all; I’ve seen some pillowcases with characters from Muv-Luv Alternative that I like. I really dig those piloting suits.

  39. The Endless General says:

While I can totally see the novelty value in owning one of these, I don’t think I would buy one. I get enough strange looks/questions for my figure collection alone. Then again, two years ago I didn’t think I would be buying figures either so, who knows lol.

    • Tier says:

I had wanted a dakimakura for a long time before I actually got one, but yeah, I did think it was a pretty weird thing to have. Nowadays, it’s just part of the decor. The good thing is that it seems to be getting easier to get a dakimakura; a few years back, I wouldn’t have even known where to look.

  40. Azsharra says:

I just stumbled into your blog when i was going to illustguerilla’s site. I have this daki too but I own the most expensive version. But I don’t have the other versions to compare quality and feel. I had to use a deputy service to place a pre-order on her. Along with the daki, I also received a printed illustration of the twins in a naughty scene. I also own the cheapest version of sheryl nome daki which I paid more for on Yahoo Auction JP.

    • Tier says:

It’s good to know there’s more people in the English-speaking world who are fond of Illust Guerrilla’s work. I didn’t get any print though, which I would’ve liked, since the artwork is very nice and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a large-sized version of it on the web (though I lack a Pixiv account so I guess I wouldn’t know if there is one on the artist’s account). That Sheryl dakimakura is definitely sweet. Man, now I kinda want to get another dakimakura case … I hope the two I preordered for this month ship on time.

  41. Shashin says:

I’m really sad that they haven’t put anything new out in some time. I still check their website once every couple days, and never see anything new on their dakimakura page. It’s a real bummer, as they’re definitely one of the more detailed dakimakura artists and I’d love to add to my erotic collection of dakimakura. I’m also a bit sad that the three listed on YHJ when you picked up yours haven’t been listed since shortly afterwards. I would have even eventually settled for the SK version, but that’s not even available anymore. Oh well, hopefully someone will list another one eventually, or they’ll come out with an even naughtier dakimakura (I think that would be preferable.)

    • Tier says:

Yeah, I wonder what’s up with that … the artist is still updating his blog, so he’s still active, but I don’t know what he’s up to. Hopefully one goes up or they come up with more stuff soon. On a completely unrelated note, I’m gonna try to get a review up of Zanjibaru here in a week or two, I’ve got an answer to my question and I think I kinda sorta understand the plot well enough to write about it.

  42. Shashin says:

Well, it’s possible that he’s just slow on updating his dakimakura portion, but I doubt that. I do remember that I found two new dakimakura on YHJ before they were on the official dakimakura page (the two newest.) But hopefully we’ll see something from the circle soon.

This pleases me greatly; I really anticipate the review. I watched the Unlimited Blade Works movie the other day, and it has really made me want to get back to visual novels. And I also have an absolute desire to acquire a good Tohsaka Rin figure. Which is unfortunate, because after looking at releases and E2046’s sold out figures, there really hasn’t been much of her; Saber, sure… but not much Rin.

    • Tier says:

I’m gonna play through it again really quickly to take notes on the plot; I figure I’ll do a full plot overview since there are very few English-language sources on Zanjibaru and I kinda doubt many Japanese-illiterate people would want to play through it anyway. But first I need to review a couple of figures. So much to do, so little time.

I’m sure you’ve seen GSC’s Rin Tohsaka that they keep showing off at every convention they’ve gone to for what seems like the last year. She looks absolutely fantastic, her ass being especially spectacular. I really wish they’d hold off on the nendoroid crap so they could get her up for preorder but I’m guessing we’ll have to wait a while longer.

  43. Shashin says:

Most of the time, I’ll play a translated game, or just download the CG/go through that. I’ve played a few games that actually had the right atmosphere that I could play it without understanding what was going on; be it because of the music, voices, or whatever.

Probably. I remember seeing a gray cast of an amazing figure, but I never saw a painted version. This was a few months ago, and I’ve seen nothing from it. If that is the figure, I absolutely agree with you; I’d plop down a preorder in a heartbeat.

  44. Vince says:

Hmm.. This is a very interesting dakimakura. May I know where did you get this? I want to get one too 🙂
