Preorder Outlook III

I spent some time this evening shooting pictures of Tsukino Azusagawa, and I wasn’t really feeling the way they turned out. Guess it’s back to the drawing board there. Since I have no pictures to post, and since it’s been a while since my last preorder outlook post, I figure why not do one of those? As usual all images are shamelessly taken from Hobby Search (a great place to buy figures from) and AmiAmi (I’m sure they would be a great place to buy figures from if they shipped internationally).

November

Miku Hatsune from Vocaloid
I’ve got this figure preordered and in all honesty I’m not sure why. I remember getting interested in the software four or five years ago when they had a voice named Miriam sing some example songs. I was a broke college student at the time so I couldn’t afford it, and so I forgot about it until recently when suddenly I found that it’s become crazy popular because of a green-haired mascot character. Most strange.

Mio Akiyama from K-On!
I’m really only buying this figure because she’s holding a bass. I think she’d look cooler holding a Stingray but I suppose this will do (I’m not a big fan of the Fender headstock shape).

Lucia from Pangya
Now this one I’m looking forward to. Bare midriff, chunky high heels, and a pink golf club, what’s not to like? The club looks a little bit short, but I’ve never played golf, so what do I know.

Seena Kanon from Shining Wind
I like Orchid Seed a lot, and the prototype images of Seena are utterly stunning. I’m really hoping that the production figure matches the sample, because this is one of the figures I am anticipating the most. Trivia note: the AmiAmi product page has fifteen pictures of Seena and none of them feature a panty shot, despite her abbreviated skirt.

Aaliyah from Ikusa Otome Valkyrie 2
I suppose I don’t need to explain why I’ve got this figure preordered. I have one Gigapulse figure and I’m really not expecting this one to be any good. I’m hoping that this figure gets me a lot of traffic off of Google Images from people searching for something quite a bit different than a pervy plastic figure.

Saber from Fate/stay night
The Saber that you love to hate! I remember seeing the painted garage kit over on Heisei Democracy last year and feeling a bit ambivalent about it, but she’s started to grow on me these past few weeks. I’m really looking forward to this figure now, and I wonder if I’m the only person in the western hemisphere who feels that way. I hope that you can take off her clothes.

Kanu Uncho from Ikkitousen
Alter is re-releasing this figure in November, and while I remember wanting it rather badly (but not being able to afford it) at the time of its initial release, I’m not so certain it’s held up all that well over time. Part of the problem is that there are so many Kanu Unchos out there, including Daiki Kougyou’s superlative Vol. 13 version, and Alter’s version loses a lot of its distinctiveness as a result. Still thinking about it though; opportunities to pick up something you missed out on the first time don’t happen often in this hobby.

Risty from Queen’s Blade
I was very impressed by Risty’s amazing sculpt when I saw the initial prototype pictures, and I thought that I didn’t need to preorder early because nobody was going to buy it. I mean, she doesn’t have huge eyes, she’s massively musclebound, and she holds a decidedly unsexy morning star. She’s pretty much the inverse of moe, so who was going to buy her? How wrong I was; she sold out faster than just about any other figure I’ve ever seen. I have to admit that my faith in humanity was restored a bit by that. I’ll keep an eye on HLJ and Hobby Search and see if they open preorders back up as her release date nears.

December

Seira Orgel from Chaos;Head
I don’t have a clue who this character is, but Orchid Seed knows how to do the ecchi, so I’ll be preordering her. Apparently Chaos;Head was released on the Xbox 360 in Japan; why don’t we ever get games like that on this side of the world?

Sora Kasugano from Yosuganosora
I kinda feel like I’m betraying a cause here by ordering this figure (looking through the figure gallery, I don’t have many figures that could be classified as moe. At least, I don’t think I do; I don’t actually really know what moe means. Is it defined by the Potter Stewart test?). Moe or not, this figure is adorable and preordered.

Sheryl Nome from Macross Frontier
Being that I like MegaHouse’s first Sheryl Nome and that I am a pervert, how can I not get this figure? Face looks a little bit weird but oh well, it’s close enough for government work.

January

Enka Oudo from … something
I like big figures and Enka Oudo passes the size test at over a foot tall, but I don’t like her color scheme much. Yamato loves doing repaints, so I think I’ll hold off on this figure and wait and see whether a recolored version makes an appearance.

Canaan from, uhh, Canaan
I like girls with guns, and I feel that it’s almost my duty to support this dwindling genre but I don’t really like Canaan’s character designs. She looks sorta like a more androgynous version of Burst Angel’s Jo. I’m waffling on this one but I’m leaning towards giving it a pass.

Velvet from Odin Sphere
I’m waffling on this figure too. I like the character design and the sculpt, and while I don’t think Yamato is as bad as they are sometimes made out to be, I’m not sure I can justify shelling out $100 for this figure. Doubtless I’ll find some way to rationalize doing so in the intervening time, however.

Dizzy from Guilty Gear X
Already paid for. It’s about time someone turned Dizzy into a PVC figure.

Out of your list, Seena is the only one I have picked up, let’s hope she really does come close to the prototype picture, she is rather hot despite the fact that I had little interest in her in the anime.

    I envy you.

Laughed about the “Google hits” bit. And you can take off that crappy Saber’s clothes. I’ve seen her naked, and while her body is painted really well, the sculpting and pose still leave a lot to be desired. Considering that with clothes she looks like ass, it’s a really unfortunate figure.

Well, seeing as I have that Yamato’s figure and Lucia both as their respective weeks’ “Figure of the Week”, you know how I feel about them 🙂

    Some very nice figures.

I looked at this post today and I realized I left off E2046’s stuff. Whoops. I put in a preorder for the epic KOS-MOS and I’m still waffling on Asuka. Ehh … I know I’m going to want her so I suppose there’s no sense putting a decision off until they close preorders.

I think the pictures of naked Saber are from the garage kit version; I’m not sure if the PVC version gets that option (some of the comments on Moeyo’s preview of the sample suggested that her clothes cannot be taken off).

I can’t quite understand why she’s aroused such ire. I don’t really love her face, but I don’t hate it (incidentally, I know people who are terrified of Dollfie Dream faces). What I’m guessing happened is that a powerful solar flare occurred recently which scrambled everyone’s brains and that my skull – whose thickness is unparalleled in the course of cranial evolution – protected me alone among the human masses. This is the only plausible explanation that I can see.

Hi!!!…you knoww..i really dont know why i cant find panty shots about seena mmmmm may be she doesnt have pantsu??? jajajajajaja cool!! jajaja well many figures you want are my favorites in this year yea!!!

    Cool …saludos

  5. Tier says:

I had the same thought. It’d be awesome if she doesn’t but I’m guessing that she does. I wonder if they’re striped like the Max Factory version?

  6. Guy says:

The real problem with that saber figure is her awful awful pose. Which also doesn’t make any sort of sense.

She almost looks pregnant. The back backwards like that, her armour-dress all puffed up… if it cost a third of what it did I may have been slightly ok with it. And that it’s a large figure is another strike out.

As I’ve told Ninjovee, I’d rather have a small pile of crap than a large pile of crap 😉

  7. Tier says:

Hehe, well, regardless of how scrambled up everyone’s brains are, I’m looking forward to her. November can’t come soon enough!

  8. Blowfish says:

Haha the same Thing happened to me with Risty aswell.I seriously hope that ill be able to aquire her one way or another.
Orchid Seeds Seena is tempting, very tempting but my budget wont allow me to buy her so shes a pass…:/

I missed Alters Kanu aswell and now that they are Re-Releasing her and Choun I had to preorder them immediately together with the new Ikki tousen Releases.

Ahh Enka…Just as I wrote in another Commentary Im a sucker for Shunya Yamashita designed Stuff.Ill oversleep this but its more or less decided ^^

Canaan…Im not much of a fan when it comes to her Characterdesign but I really, really like her pose and well there are way too few gunwielding girls

  9. Tier says:

I forgot to put Choun on this list, this one here. I haven’t preordered her and I’m not sure if I will because her legs look sort of strange, but damn if she doesn’t look good from some angles. I don’t know anything about BEAT though. On the other hand, I did preorder Daiki Kougyou’s Ryomou, and Chouun would look epic standing next to miko Kanu and goth-loli Shunya Yamashita Ryomou.

  10. Guy says:

To be honest, Risty is awesome. And this reminds me, I earlier said about Allean and being sure I could pick her up in the future, cause no Queen’s Blade figure ever runs out, and you can find copious amounts of each on eBay?

    Well, I forgot Risty, heh.

  11. Tier says:

I might just wait till she gets a US release as November’s looking like a really crowded and expensive month. Although I guess that’s not accounting for inevitable delays; I’m expecting that every Alter figure on this list is going to be at least one month late, and I guess it’s probably optimistic to assume that the other manufacturers are going to get their stuff out on time, too.

  12. Guy says:

Did you see Red Version Allean?

Didn’t see it elsewhere, and OoS here, but still, awesome.

  13. Guy says:

    Ah, here.

    Might eBay her later.

  14. Tier says:

I did see her, and I thought about ordering the original green version, but I’m sorta iffy on Griffon. I like their To Heart figures but the two Kanu figures I have leave a bit to be desired. Seeing the recent reviews for MegaHouse’s Allean kinda makes me think I ought to pick her up, though.

  15. Guy says:

Yeah, saw a post recently comparing the Griffon and MegaHouse, and MegaHouse definitely won.

In general, it seems I prefer the MH to Griffon Queen’s Blade figures.
