Yoko Ritona Dakimakura from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Cospa Yoko Ritona Dakimakura Review

Cospa Yoko Ritona Dakimakura Review

Much to my dismay, most of my preorders for May have become preorders for June, so instead of photographing the figures in my backlog (which would require me to clean off my desk and set up my lights), I think I will do a review of my Yoko dakimakura. Made by Cospa, there’s already a good review of it on Ota Desho so I’ll keep this short.

I’ve written a review of my Taka Tony dakimakura (NSFW) but Yoko was actually the first pillowcase I bought, sometime back in January. I promised myself last year that when I started working, I’d get myself a dakimakura and I keep my promises. The ones I make to myself, that is.

The material is similar to the Taka Tony pillowcase but it isn’t quite as lustrous. The printing is bright, sharp, and undoubtedly pleasing to the eye.

Five-foot tall pillowcases don’t really stand up well by themselves, as one can see by the evident sagging. Unlike my other pillowcase, this one isn’t noticeably creased, even though it’s spent several months folded up in a drawer.

Some dakimakura show a frontal view of a character on one side and a more scantily-clad front view of the subject on the reverse side. I prefer this style instead, where you get front and rear views of a character.

Cospa’s printed off like three production runs of this dakimakura, and they seem to be gearing up to release another one next month. It’s not hard to guess why, as this pillowcase looks outstanding.

I am not familiar with Yoko myself, but I think I will try to keep it that way for as long as possible. One of these days, I would actually want to get a cospa branded Dakimakura, to see the difference between brand name and knockoff china production.

So what are you using as a pillow body?Cospa,Self-made of one out of a local shop?

What’s wrong with Yoko? I don’t actually know much about her either, I’ve only watched the first two episodes of Gurren Lagann. She is cute, though.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the ones made in China are close in quality to the official ones (I wonder if the official ones are made in China too?). When I lived in Korea, you could find knockoff clothing of famous fashion brands, and they’d be of reasonably high quality. I’d guess textiles are pretty easy to manufacture and print.

I use a pillow from Bed Bath & Beyond … this one here: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=13690456&RN=1144 . They have an even cheaper one online, but the store I went to didn’t have it. $20 is still a good deal cheaper than the Cospa pillows I saw on Hobby Search (I don’t even want to think how much it’d cost to ship a body pillow to the United States). It’s about eight inches too short, so I might stuff an extra cushion in there to pad it out.

    ooo very nice ^^

    makes me want to rewatch some gurren lagann ^^;

wise choice getting a pillow locally… i actually did end up getting one from hobby search… and yes, shipping costs were insane. if i remember it was something like $30 more than a figure shipment orz

  5. Tier says:

Ouch. Yeah, I’m glad you can go to a store to buy a body pillow, otherwise, I think I would’ve just stuffed it with two or three normal-sized pillows rather than importing a Cospa one.

I’m running out of space to display my figures, but figures are nothing in terms of space requirements compared to dakimakura. I barely have enough space for one dakimakura, let alone two, and I’ve got a third on preorder. I’m not sure how I’m going to display them; maybe I’ll rotate them weekly or something.

  6. Guy says:

It’s all made in China. Hilarious, eh?

And many dakimakuras combine the two aspects: One side has the front of the character, and the other a scantily clad version of their backside! 😀

  7. Tier says:

There were a couple of Code Geass pillowcases that came out recently that do that. I was really, really tempted by them but I’ve already got three and only one pillow, so I guess it wouldn’t have made much sense to get them.

^^^would you say that this one is the same one that you
    just reviewed?

  9. Tier says:

It looks similar but judging by the price, I’m pretty sure it’s counterfeit, since officially licensed products tend to cost upwards of $90. I think the Cospa-made pillowcase is a bit larger (mine’s listed as being 150 cm long) too.

  10. Chris says:

so does counterfeit automatically mean bad? I mean I don’t plan on collecting these…collecting anime already breaks my bank lol. I just want one and I like yoko. So do you think this would be a good purchase? Or should I buy the one from Righstuf for $30 that is just a pillow with the images printed directly one it and see if sears will take back my premature pillow purchase lol. Because I believe the cospa one is sold out and I have no way of purchasing it anyway.

sorry if I sound like an idiot..I’ve never really paid much attention to these so I don’t wanna (for lack of a better word) get screwed

    thanks

  11. Tier says:

It does mean it’s unlicensed. I own a few bootleg goods and I download fansubs so I don’t really have grounds to preach ethics or anything, and even if I did I wouldn’t since I’m just one random dude on the internet and my opinion doesn’t amount to much. I will mention that this Yoko pillowcase has gone through like four production runs; it’s actually supposed to be re-released later this month, although Hobby Search and HLJ have closed down preorders for now.

  12. Ian Medve says:

excuse me but where can i order one LOL
