Preorder Outlook LVIII

It’s been a while since the last post, and it’s been a great deal of time since the last preorder post, so it’s a good time to take a look at some of the figures I am considering preordering. It’s a long list and the unifying theme here is eye-watering prices, as figure and statue prices continue to rise unabated. Having recently resolved to upgrade my car within the next few years, this trend is sort of a problem but being that I don’t spend much money on other things, I guess I can deal with it.

July 2019

Ade-Sugata III from the Art of Gamo Tsukinowa
The third Ade-Sugata figure looks to be the best one yet. I like the pose and the optional display parts. Hopefully that wall is sturdy, since I would not like to see what would happen to the figure should it collapse.

Scarlett from G.I. Joe
I haven’t actually bought many of Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo figures since they shifted their designs from 1/8 scale to 1/7 scale quite a while ago, but their adaptation of Scarlett is one that I’m really looking forward to. I was a big G.I. Joe fan as a kid and I admit that I liked Scarlett a lot, so much so that this figure may be the one that I am most looking forward to in this list.

August 2019

Uesugi Kenshin from Rance 10
We haven’t seen a Sengoku Rance figure for a while, so it’s nice to see someone making a figure of one of its principal characters. Too bad nobody’s making a new Senhime figure, though. Kenshin looks pretty nice with her armor on, but not quite as good when naked, which is too bad. I’m inclined to buy this figure even so, but 18,900 yen for a 1/7 scale figure is a pretty daunting proposition.

September 2019

Iowa from Kantai Collection
And if that price was bad, Iowa is listed at a blistering 25,000 yen for a 1/7 scale figure. I remember when people objected to paying 25,000 yen for Daiki Kougyou’s 1/4 scale figure of gangsta lean Saber, which was a far larger figure produced in what seems to be a small production run. I really want to get this figure and usually price isn’t a deterrent, but it’s really hard for me to justify spending that much money on this, particularly when I’m not a big fan of Kantai Collection to start with.

November 2019

Ai Kizuna from A.I. Games
Like a lot of people, my introduction to Ai Kizuna was from a certain video in which she was depicted as playing Resident Evil (her channel is also the only time I’ve ever watched anyone play Fortnite, which looks like a bizarre game to me). I like her costume and spunky look here, moreso than her typical appearance.

Ayame from the Art of Ban!
It’s another figure from Ban! And she has an option where she can be displayed without a penis, or at least, without a strap-on. Good enough for me. What a hobby this is.

Jibril from No Game No Life
One of the next figures in FREEing’s series of 1/4 scale bunnygirl figures in doggystyle poses is Jibril. I don’t buy a lot of these, partly because of the price but mostly because they consume a lot of display space, but I think I’ll pick up Jibril; her slinky pose and agreeable face are too nice to pass up.

December 2019

Alisia Heart from Dungeon Travelers 2
I own a few figures from the To Heart 2: Dungeon Travelers series, but this will be the first figure I get from its sequel, which appears to use all original characters. I could be wrong about that, though. Alisia looks pretty nice and I appreciate the scantiness of her clothing, but the juxtaposition of white panties and open negligee with a couple of highly stylized swords is a little odd.

Lilly from the BINDing Creator’s Opinion
I’m a big fan of Hisasi’s artwork and I think I will buy this figure, even though the price is high as usual and the pose is a little awkward for display. Given the general theme of the figure, I would have liked her to have more of a bondage-style outfit, but being that it’s removable I guess it’s not a big deal.

Fourth Quarter 2019

Mai Shiranui from the King of Fighters
Mai Shiranui has always been a favorite muse for figure makers; her character design holds obvious appeal, and I imagine SNK is enthusiastic about licensing their intellectual property. However, it’s still curious that she is getting not one, but two very large – 1/4 scale – and very, very expensive statues. This one is from HMO, or Hand Made Object. Oddly, it’s going to be the first one to market even though no prototype statue has actually been unveiled; right now, all we’ve seen are 3D renders. Regardless, it’s up for order and I think I’m going to order it, sight unseen, at a price tag of around $900, all of which is a little intimidating. That said, their earlier work on their statue of Morrigan from Darkstalkers (or Vampire, if you prefer) appears to be of very high quality, so I’m not exceptionally worried.

January 2020

Maria from the BINDing Creator’s Opinion
Lilly’s large-breasted compatriot is Maria; I like her design, but a little less so than I like Lilly’s. I think Maria needs some sort of accessory to justify her facial expression, like a tentacle stand or something.

Fourth Quarter 2020

Mai Shiranui from the King of Fighters
The second 1/4 scale statue of Mai Shiranui is from Kinetiquettes. While the HMO statue is of an original design (one that they’ve revised at least once during the design process), this statue is based off of artwork by Stanley Lau, also known as Artgerm, a very talented and well-known artist based in Singapore. Both look fantastic and I’m not sure which I prefer, so I think I am going to just buy both and not have to deal with deciding. Strangely, this statue already has a prototype statue prepared, despite not being set for release until late 2020, a full year after the HMO statue is scheduled to release. Not that I’m putting much stock in either release date, given that statue makers are notorious for pushing shipping dates back. For those who are interested in these statues but only wish to purchase one, the Kinetiquettes product is a great deal cheaper, at $700.

Wanted to ask a question: could this page be legit, or just a scam?

They have various anime figures at very low prices, but all the figure are at 50 dollars, and they all are at 60 figures on stock.

There is probably a nil chance that those figures are authentic and I would be really hesitant about giving them my credit card number. The Hotmail address at the top of the page is pretty hilarious. If I were going to buy bootleg figures, they’re generally a lot cheaper on eBay, and the shopping experience is much safer there, since they and Paypal often side with the buyer in disputes.

    Interesting selection!

Scarlett: I hadn’t realized how much GI Joe uniforms look like some X-Men uniforms… that could almost be Jean Grey with a crossbow…

Uesugi Kenshin from Rance 10 indeed an attractive armor/costume with that flowing folded skirt. I also like Jibril for her expression and Alisia from Dungeon Travellers girl for her exotic look. Of the lewd ones, Ade and Lilly stand out to me.

I was tempted by Native’s Lilly but that price tag is too high for my tastes. In fact I haven’t bought a figure for about a year. The one figure that I did feel obliged to order was Alter’s Velvet Crowe, which I do think looks stunning.

    Not your taste though?
