Maya Kamiwazumi from Fault!! Service: Aratanaru Rival (NSFW)

Maya Kamiwazumi figure from Alphamax

Making up for lost time, we will once more examine another ero figure. However, while the Freezing girls merely come from a fanservice-heavy TV anime, Maya Kamiwazumi stars in a bona fide eroge and anime. Fault!! Service: Aratanaru Rival is the sequel to Ciel’s Fault!!, the game that Ai Saeki and Reiko Date Wingfield come from. In choosing to produce Maya, Alphamax has curiously skipped over original characters Mio Sugiyama and Rika Hayama, which is a little surprising; I had expected them to make a figure of Mio, at least, given how strangely popular the incest thing is. At any rate, Maya is here, so let’s learn a little more about her.

Dakimakura Review – Kinmokusei from the Art of Carnelian (NSFW)

Kinmokusei dakimakura by Carnelian

It’s time for pillow talk. Right now, the new hotness in the pillowcase world – and the anime world in general – is the Kantai Collection, further proof – in case anyone needed it – that you can slap a pair of big eyes and tits on any concept and it will sell. This pillowcase, however, is a bit older, having been releaased in 2012. I thought about picking it up at the time but passed on it. A while later, I began thinking that that was a mistake, and started looking through the usual secondary market sources to see if I could amend the error. Fortunately, the circle who produces this dakimakura cover occasionally restocks out-of-print pillowcases, and so I was able to purchase this cover.

Ganessa Roland from Freezing (Sexy Version) (NSFW)

Ganessa Roland figure by FREEing

The fourth FREEing Freezing girl is Ganessa Roland, a student at West Genetics with the nickname “The Angel of Binding.” Like series heroine Satellizer, she’s a British girl, though while Satella is timid and withdrawn, Ganessa is a haughty, arrogant, and brash fireball. In the very first episode of the anime adaptation, we see Ganessa in action as she assaults and defeats Satellizer, and for a while it seemed like she would serve as an antagonist – or at least as a foil – to the show’s lead girl. Strangely, if I recall correctly, she then fades into the background for much of the rest of the series, not really doing much until the last couple of episodes – though she does make a brief appearance in the prom episode, dressed as a dominatrix. At any rate, she’s gotten a figure of her own so let’s take a look at it.

Rana Linchen from Freezing (Sexy Version) (NSFW)

Rana Linchen from Freezing by FREEing

Freezing is one of the worst anime series I’ve watched to completion but that hasn’t stopped it from inexplicably getting a second season (titled, with all appropriate subtlety, Freezing Vibration). Nor has that stopped it from receiving a number of figures, which is more understandable given the pleasing looks of much of the show’s (and manga’s) principal cast. FREEing has made the majority of them, including lead girl Satellizer el Bridget. Today we’ll look at her co-star and romantic rival, the happy Tibetan homewrecker Rana Linchen.

Dakimakura Review – Momoka from Suteki na Imouto (NSFW)

Momoka dakimakura from Evening Call

It’s dakimakura cover show-and-tell time. This particular pillowcase comes from Evening Call and is part of their “Puredise” line, which I think is their series of dakimakura covers featuring original characters. The girl presented here is Momoka and she’s listed as coming from “Suteki na Imouto,” which means something like “Wonderful Little Sister.” The artist goes by the name Chikura; I don’t know if he (I’m assuming it’s a he) has a website, and his Pixiv site is sparsely-populated. I wasn’t at all familiar with the artist before seeing his work here, but it didn’t take too long for me to decide I liked the art on this pillowcase.

Dakimakura Review – Tiana from Maou to Odore! Code: Arcana (NSFW)

Tiana from Maou to Odore! Code: Arcana

The last time we looked at a dakimakura cover, we looked at a warrior girl with no name. This time, we’ll be looking at another fighter girl, one who apparently has no last name.

Dakimakura Review – Pretty Girl Knight from the Art of Nakajou (NSFW)

%3 Figure Review

I have to admit that one of my favorite themes in pop culture is the scantily-clad female fighter. It’s not as common a motif as it used to be, I think, which is sort of unfortunate, but it can still be found in anime properties like Queen’s Blade or video games like Code of Princess, which I sadly doubt I’ll ever get to play, given my general bias against handheld systems (though I do actually own a PSP, purchased mainly to play Persona 3 Portable, but I’ve since lost the UMD somewhere). It’s never been a frequent theme in dakimakura cover artwork, though, so when I saw this pillowcase, my interest was piqued straight away.

Dakimakura Review – Inori Yuzuriha from Guilty Crown (Evening Call Version) (NSFW)

Inori Yuzuriha Dakimakura Review

Guilty Crown is often compared to shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Code Geass, but regardless of their parallels in plot structure, characterization, and themes, it seems clear that it is not their equal when it comes to merchandising power. Evangelion’s popularity needs no commentary, and Code Geass just got this pretty awesome dakimakura cover from Movic, but while Guilty Crown came in riding a wave of hype and anticipation, it now seems to be the show that everyone wants to forget. I had thought that Good Smile Company or someone would show a few Guilty Crown figures at the recent Wonder Festival, but I don’t recall seeing any – not even Figmas (quite surprising, being that the bar to get a Figma is set pretty low). On the plus side, Azone’s big-ass Inori doll is looking pretty. Also on the plus side, lead girl Inori Yuzuriha and some of her castmates were popular subjects for dakimakura cover artists, as we see here.

Dakimakura Review – Fate T. Harlaown from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS (Evening Call Version) (NSFW)

Fate T. Harlaown Dakimakura Review

While I enjoy taking pictures of the figures that I buy, I’m a collector like everyone else in this hobby, and one of the things that I enjoy doing is finding stuff featuring characters that I like, particularly if it is created by artists whose work I admire. To that end, I’ve been searching for the right Fate pillowcase for a while. At first, it doesn’t seem like it should be that difficult an endeavor; Fate is, of course, one of the most popular anime characters out there, and she can be seen on a number of dakimakura covers. For me, though, the right Fate pillowcase depicts her in her adult form, which rules out a number of pillowcases from the start, and it also depicts her in her Shin Sonic uniform – you’d think that wouldn’t be an obstacle, but for some reason, it’s not a popular look for her, at least on dakimakura covers. I thought that the HOP-produced pillowcase by Briest would be the one, but some nasty and unexpected mosaic censoring drops it in my esteem. A few months ago, this one popped up on Evening Call’s website. Is it the right one?

Dakimakura Review – Kimi Aoi from Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere (NSFW)

Kimi Aoi Dakimakura Review

The last few dakimakura covers featured here have been mostly of rather young-looking, physically-undeveloped characters, so to speak, so this time we’ll look at a pillowcase depicting a full-grown lady. This character is Kimi Aoi, the older sister of Toori Aoi, the lead male character of the light novel and recently-concluded anime series Horizon on (or in) the Middle of Nowhere. Although the anime seems reasonably popular – surely due in no small part to its attractive and expansive cast of colorful, likeable characters – it hasn’t gotten a lot of love from the figure industry. That’s rather unfortunate, since I really like the character designs and they would lend themselves well to figures. However, we’ll talk more about the anime and the few figures it has spawned later on; for now, let’s take a closer look at this dakimakura cover.
