The vmf50 series are the newest dolls in my collection, but my doll-collecting habits go way back. In fact, before I collected anime figures, I collected dolls. I think I got my first doll back around 2003 and my collection rapidly grew to around a dozen 1/6 scale dolls. When I got into PVC figures, my doll collecting tapered off and nowadays, I don’t buy very many of them. When I first saw Yamato’s vmf50 doll, though, I decided that this was something worth getting. I got my first vmf50 doll earlier this year and I’ve since built up a small collection of doll clothes and accessories. I named her Simone, but Yamato calls this doll Risa and that’s what I’ll call her for the purpose of this review.

Doujinshi Stuff Part 2 (NSFW)

I’d meant to follow up my Doujinshi and Doll Stuff post earlier, but I wanted to wait till I received the doujinshi that I recently ordered. Now that it’s all here, I can show off some of the stuff that I’ve bought. No doll stuff is included here, though; I had intended to photograph Rei and Asuka (the original Medicom Real Action Heroes dolls) doing lewd things with each other but I forgot about it. I’ll give a quick review: decent likenesses, kinda sucky for playing around with.

A lot of this stuff is from Comiket 78. Comiket is a huge convention and hentai books comprise only a fraction of what’s exhibited there, but I still like to think of it as the greatest celebration of cartoon porn in the galaxy. This is my small homage to this wonderful thing.

I got a shipping payment request for Shoujo S from Tokyo Hunter the other week, and after I sent off the money, I had the feeling that something felt unusual about the whole deal. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but after thinking about it for a moment, I realized what it was: Shoujo S came out right on time! How rare is that? Native listed June as her release month, and she came out right on schedule, which is very peculiar. It’s a bit like where I work; we had this big party a few months back because we managed to ship out a patch for our product on time. Now that’s more sad than peculiar.

I was thrilled to learn that FREEing planned to follow up their version of Kenshin with my favorite Sengoku Rance girl. I got my preorder in right away and counted down the days until her April release date. Of course, figure manufacturers delight in my disappointment, and so Senhime got punted back one month and then another. In a happy bit of serendipity, the delay threw her right into Amiami’s 15% discount sale, and given that she was relatively pricey, I guess I don’t mind.

People are surprised when I tell them that I collect dolls, and what is perhaps even more surprising is that I’ve been collecting dolls for far longer than I’ve been buying anime figures. I don’t play around with them much – most are stuck in a drawer or in a couple of cardboard boxes now – but I do enjoy buying them and dressing them up. Hentai is something of a niche genre in a niche medium, lurking off to the side away from the mainstream. Although the hentai industry is incessantly assailed by critics and censors and region 1 distribution is all but dead and devotees of cartoon porn are a peculiar breed within a hobby that already carries its own forceful social stigma, figure manufacturers are nothing but enthusiastic about adapting characters from hentai games and anime. Even hardcore series such as Demonbane, the Rance franchise, and Escalayer have made the happy jump from 2D to 3D courtesy of big names like Alter, Max Factory, and Kotobukiya.

I’ve found it curious that Bible Black hasn’t gotten a great deal of attention from figure makers, despite its varied cast and the respect it has received as a dark, edgy show with an actual plotline. Admittedly, the plot mainly works to facilitate the raping but that’s only to be expected for a show like that. At any rate, it appears that Miyabiya is out to rectify this oversight, and so we have here their first Bible Black figure, Rika Shiraki.
