Golden Darkness from To Love-Ru Darkness

It’s time to look at bunnygirls. The first one we’ll examine is To Love-Ru’s inscrutable, bibliophilic murderess with the protean physiology: Konjiki no Yami, or Golden Darkness. She is one of the most popular characters in the To Love-Ru series and it’s not difficult to see why. The To Love-Ru characters have been getting some love from figure manufacturers in recent months and it appears that FREEing is going to do a series of figures comprising most of the principal cast. Yami is the first of this line to hit the market, so it’s only appropriate to look at her first.

Yami is portrayed as a reserved and taciturn who attends the same high school as most of the series’ characters. She is actually a space alien who has come to Earth to assassinate male series lead Rito Yuuki; however, in the immutable tradition of the harem genre, she eventually recants her viewpoint and comes to desire the protagonist’s sperm. Or somesuch. Unlike most of the main cast, she is an experienced warrior with significant combat abilities, including being able to reshape her body, typically into sharp and pointy objects.

This figure is manufactured by FREEing in 1/4 scale. She’s about 32 centimeters in height, counting the bunny ears. As she is kneeling, no base is required to keep her upright and none is provided.

FREEing’s bunnygirl figures exhibit a remarkable level of consistency, and so anyone who already owns such a figure knows what to expect from Yami. The design of the figure is fairly simplistic, with Yami wearing a simple black leotard, stockings, and high heel pumps. The leotard is very glossy and the stockings are made of real fishnet-style fabric which fits tightly on her legs.

Yami isn’t a particularly emotive character and true to form, she’s not displaying a great deal of emotion here. Her lips are parted as if she’s about to say something, and judging by her blush – not a common feature of FREEing’s bunnygirls – she is perhaps expressing her discomfort with her costume.

That would make some sense, being that her modest bust doesn’t quite fill out the leotard’s cups.

However, she does have a surprisingly large backside, nicely accentuated by the arch of her back. Many of FREEing’s bunnygirls do have prominent rears, which is something of a rare feature amongst anime figures, but is a pleasing aspect of this figure series.

You can only make that observation from the side, though; the rear view is entirely obscured by her cascading hair.

Again, despite the large size of the figure, the sculpt isn’t particularly elaborate, nor is the paint job especially refined. However, I don’t really have an issue with either of those things, being that I own a bunch of bunnygirl figures and have come to accept and expect an absence of intricate detailing. What you do get is a very large figure – which carries its own cachet in my view – of a character in a sexy costume that they might not otherwise be seen wearing. I don’t have an extensive bunnygirl collection – I count nine – but the more I get, the more I like them. I think that this is a really nice figure of Yami and I’m looking forward to seeing how FREEing’s Mikan, Yui, and the rest of the cast look when they go up for sale.

Oh wow! Somehow I resisted this initially but she looks great. I’m torn as to whether or not I wish her hair was in fist form though I don’t know how prominent her prehensile hair was after the first season. I keep thinking I’m over the Freeing bunny gals but I’m fooling no one, having 3-5 perpetually queued on my wish list at any given time and still going all the way back to Oliga.

I just cracked open Nono last night and she is a real charmer.

Yeah, I don’t recall either, though I only watched about half of the first season of Darkness. I guess I have to admit that I like this product line, despite my general dislike for animals ears, artificial or not. I’ve still got a couple more in the review queue and I’m wondering if I should order Momo, too.

After 3 weeks of vacation I’d like to visit here again ^^

That Yami looks really appealing, well black always was her color ;D

I like her design and the articulation also deserves some praise.
From FREEing’s bunny girls, Yami easily has my favorite face, the expression with the erotic gaze was successfully executed, the partially open lips have a strong influence and the red eyes are pretty. The blush stripes are simple, but it is nothing bothersome, after a look at the whole figure. Even though it’s no expression she would wear in the source material, it is perfect for such an outfit. Her petite body and the voluminous blonde hair create a beautiful look.

Welcome back! Heh, I’ve been so bad at uploading posts and responding to comments that you did not miss much of anything XD I hope you had a good vacation! (Also, I wish I could take a three week vacation, but that’s all that I get in an entire year ;_; .)

I agree, they did a great job with Yami. There are a few different ways that you can interpret Yami’s look, and they all fit with her character. Yui Kotegawa looks great too, which makes me really want to pick up Momo as well.
