Doll Review – vmf50 Risa (NSFW)

Yamato vmf50 Risa Doll Review

The vmf50 series are the newest dolls in my collection, but my doll-collecting habits go way back. In fact, before I collected anime figures, I collected dolls. I think I got my first doll back around 2003 and my collection rapidly grew to around a dozen 1/6 scale dolls. When I got into PVC figures, my doll collecting tapered off and nowadays, I don’t buy very many of them. When I first saw Yamato’s vmf50 doll, though, I decided that this was something worth getting. I got my first vmf50 doll earlier this year and I’ve since built up a small collection of doll clothes and accessories. I named her Simone, but Yamato calls this doll Risa and that’s what I’ll call her for the purpose of this review.

As one can guess from the product name, the vmf50 doll body stands fifty centimeters tall, putting it somewhere between 1/3 and 1/4 scale. It’s easily the tallest figure or doll in my collection, towering almost a half foot above 1/4 scale Uesugi Kenshin. It’s kind of an unusual size, fitting in between Volks’s Dollfie Dreams and the more common 1/6 scale doll size. It can be a bit difficult to find wigs or clothes that will fit the body, though Volks’s recent announcement of the 50 centimeter Dollfie Dream Sister body will probably make it easier to do so in the future.

Yamato’s vmf50 line started with Lynn Minmay, the songstress and teenaged temptress of the first Macross anime. The second was Kanu Unchou, featuring a relatively frightening facial design. It seems that Yamato intended to release licensed dolls of Haruka and Narika from Beat Blades Haruka, but nothing ever came of that and I’m guessing that project is long dead. Instead, they rolled out their own characters, called the Original Concept Image Girls. The first was Miu, a schoolgirl with a very cool uniform. The second was Risa, who I think was the first vmf50 doll to be sold without an included wig or outfit. I think she’s also the first to have painted eyes. The third doll was Miki, who I think might use Kanu’s head or a derivative thereof. The fourth and most recent is Yumi, who appears to be a blue-eyed version of Risa with darker skin. Yamato is also doing a vmf50 doll of Nitroplus’s mascot girl Super Sonico, and I think they’ll be opening up orders for her soon. For anyone interested in the history of the vmf50 series, there’s further information in a good post at the Dollieh Sanctuary.

The doll body is derived from Obitsu’s base 50 centimeter body and features an inner skeleton surrounded by a plastic and vinyl outer shell. Yamato has slightly modified this shell on their Type B body, giving it additional musculature. Risa uses the Type D body, which has a more slender build with smaller breasts.

Yamato vmf50 Risa Doll Review

Risa is the only large doll I own, so I don’t have anything similar to compare her to, but she seems to have a good deal of posability. She can bend ninety degrees forward at her waist, her knees can flex well past ninety degrees, and she has enough flexibility to cross her legs. She seems to be able to hold more poses than most of the 1/6 scale CyGirls/Cool Girls dolls in my collection.

As I mentioned, she comes with no wig or clothes. She does have a round metal base to stand on, and she has some strong magnets in her feet to hold her upright. Of course, if you put shoes or boots on her, those magnets aren’t all that effective so you’ll need a stand to keep her standing.

One thing about the Type D body is that it features frontal anatomical accuracy, as Risa has nipples and a vagina, which is both very cool and more than a bit creepy. No realistically-sculpted anus in the back though, sadly.

Compared to Dollfie Dreams, acquiring vmf50 bodies, parts, and clothing is an arcane process that requires a good deal of patience, resourcefulness, and money. I got Risa from Hobbylink Japan, and I’m pretty sure I got their last one and they don’t seem to carry vmf50 stuff anymore. Yumi sold out almost instantly, and I think the only way to get one of the image characters is through Yahoo Japan Auctions. For people interested in building dolls from scratch, Yamato does sell the type B and D bodies through their Yahoo online store, though that requires going through a proxy. In fact, getting vmf50 apparel will generally involve going through a proxy buyer, as most of the groups that make vmf50 clothing sell them directly on their websites and generally don’t ship internationally.

So why would you want to buy vmf50 clothes? Well, one nice thing is that Yamato seems to be going after a certain demographic – namely, people who like dressing their dolls up like hos. A quick examination of Yamato’s clothing selection reveals that they’ve thrust a mighty, breath-stealing kancho right up the rectum of modesty and demureness, with the latest and greatest in 1/3 scale hookerwear comprising almost their entire product lineup. It’s a celebration of exposed flesh and debauchery and balljoints.

This image – the official product portrait for Yumi – from the Yamato site sorta shows what they’re trying to do with the vmf50 line. How many mainstream doll companies would dress their products up like that? For that matter, how many doll companies would show off their newest doll with lip and clit piercings? (Incidentally, the production doll body doesn’t have those piercings or the stickers or tattoos.)

While I’ve been a doll collector for a long time, I don’t really intend to shift my collecting back to dolls. I like Risa a lot, though, and curiously, I enjoy shopping for clothes for her much more than I enjoy getting clothes for myself. That’s a good thing too since I’ve easily spent more money on her wardrobe in the last few months than I have for my own in the last two years. I didn’t really ever expect anybody would make a hooker girl doll, but somehow Yamato’s listened to my desire and delivered a product that conforms to almost exactly what I’m looking for in a big-ass doll format. I like Risa – Simone – a lot, and hopefully Yamato makes it a bit easier for overseas collectors to buy vmf50 items.

I’ve got to be the worst photographer in this hobby when it comes to posables. I mean, I’ve got a half-naked doll in a bondage getup here, you’d think I’d be able to come up with some interesting poses. And a more interesting background; I see a lot of people taking their dolls outside, which looks pretty good if the scale difference between 1/3 and 1/1 isn’t too apparent. However, I live in a nondescript suburb, with strip malls, fast food joints, townhouses, and highways stretching out for miles in every direction, and there isn’t much interesting scenery around here. Not to mention that it’d be kinda hard to explain why I’m taking pictures of a big-ass doll wearing a slave bondage harness in front of Five Guys.

Yamato vmf50 Risa Doll Review

If anyone is crazy enough to go after a vmf50 doll, Yahoo Japan is going to become one of your favorite sites. I’m currently using a Monique Gold Label “Faith” wig in size 7/8; I purchased it from the Denver Doll Emporium. I’ve also purchased wigs from Facets by Marcia; she’s got a large number of pictures showing each of the wigs she stocks, so it’s a great resource to visit if you’re looking for a new hairdo for your doll. Note that size 8/9 wigs probably will be too large, and some of the size 7 wigs from Parabox are too small. The bondage harness is from TcDoLL; they also sell bondagewear for Dollfie Dream bodies. Other clothing makers include Addams Town and the Real Art Project.

Oh, and also, like most vinyl dolls the vmf50 body is prone to becoming stained by dark clothing. There’s not really anything you can do to prevent this, other than not having your doll wear dark clothes for extended periods of time (or using a mesh bodysuit, which is a less attractive option for a doll that shows a lot of skin). On the plus side, stains aren’t too difficult to reduce; a generous application of acne cream containing 10% benzoyl peroxide and some time in a warm place (such as a sunlit window sill; not in front of a hair dryer or on a space heater) will cause them to fade.

You know, I really like this doll, and think the outfits and expression are great. Excluding the cost (which I’m sure is ridiculous – especially given your comments about the price of clothes) I think the only thing that would deter me from ever purchasing one is the joints. If they could ever find a way to hide the joints (and not just with clothing… for obvious reasons) I’d probably consider getting one. For whatever reason, the joints just really creep me out. Still, your pictures make it very hard for me to stay diligent in my efforts not to acquire a doll. Damn you!

    • Ashlotte says:

      http://www.hlj.com/specials/seamlessdolls.html

Although there hardly what I’d call attractive looking and the prices are….yea…

      • Tier says:

Ha, seamless, what’s that I see running along her inner thigh? Though to be honest, I could definitely use some of these bodies with some of my 1/6 scale heads. I’m probably gonna just roll with Triad Toys’s Evalution body though, since like the Type D body, it’s anatomically correct.

    • Tier says:

It is indeed ridiculous; I paid like 33000 yen for the body, I think, probably over a hundred bucks in wigs till I found one that i liked, and a bunch of money for clothes. Like I recently paid 3800 yen each for two doll-sized bra and panty sets. I mean, in total, that’s more than I’d pay for a pair of name-brand trousers for myself.

The joints bugged me a lot when I first collected dolls, but almost all of the ones I got were wearing bodysuits so that didn’t bother me a lot. When I decided I wanted slutty dolls instead, it became more of a problem, but I’ve learned not to mind them. With this doll, I think it adds kind of a certain charm, or WTF factor, at least.

      • The Endless General says:

That is a terrifying amount of money to spend on even regular clothes, nevermind doll clothes lol. I don’t think I’ll ever get into collecting dolls; I have a hard enough time trying to logically justify the money I spend on figures. I’m pretty sure if I did that my mind would rip itself apart attempting to logically explain it lol.

        • Tier says:

Yeah, it’s pretty tough to balance all my hobbies. Fortunately I think my doll accessory collecting is almost complete; I’m thinking I might get a couple more pairs of hooker boots if I can find them, but other than that, I’ve gotten most of the stuff I want for this doll.

      • Shashin says:

Yeah, that’s a fairly crazy expense. I guess that if I took the money I spent on dakimakura covers, and put it towards dolls, I guess I’d have something slightly more practical… or is it? On the plus side, dakimakura are easy to store. Speaking of which, I still want to place a couple order, but I just won a Miku one on YHJ last night. Couldn’t see the whole thing, and I’m not the biggest Miku fan, but it’s from a circle I really like and the facial expression is great.

That’s the thing; it wouldn’t be a big deal if I had planned to display them in proper clothing. But we both know that likely would not be the case. The joints don’t look too bad on this doll, but I still don’t think I could get over it.

Ashlotte: Yeah, the price is fairly crazy there, and the faces are almost all horrifying.

        • Tier says:

That’s one cruddy thing about Yahoo Japan, the sellers seem to seldom put any kind of decent pictures up of what you’re actually buying. Though it does make it kinda perversely exciting when you bid.

I guess neither dolls nor pillowcases are all that practical, but then again, I’ve never been much for practicality, myself. If I were, I’d probably drive a minivan instead of an underpowered two-door Civic, and I’d probably replace my shoes instead of continually layering duct tape over the huge hole in the left shoe’s sole.

Yeah, I’m not much for figures or dolls that are completely covered up, unless it’s a tight bodysuit or something, and that’s even worse for dolls because then they can barely move. I’ve got a couple of dolls of the Evangelion girls and they can hardly move their limbs because their plugsuits aren’t stretchy enough.

          • Shashin says:

It should be a mandatory thing to have good pictures, but I suppose there are some drawbacks to that. YHJ likely charges per picture, so people only post one or two, and they’re trying to skirt having to place it in the Adult section by leaving the goods unexposed.

You make a good point. I usually do replace my shoes semi-regularly, though. Have had my current pair for almost two years now, and they’re starting to wear pretty heavily. At best, I need to wash them as they’re acquiring some funk, but at worst they’re fairly worn. Not as bad as major holes covered by duct tape, but they definitely don’t look all that great.

Speaking of the Evangelion girls, I’m actually tempted to pick up the 3 set from E2046 if they’re still available next month/December (since those are two slow months.) I don’t particularly like Asuka’s face, but I like the pose, and the other two figures are nice.

          • Tier says:

I think there’s a reasonable chance they might be available, since they’ve re-released the older figures so many times. I was kinda tempted to double-dip when Yamato did the second version of Rei with the bandaged eye, but ehh … maybe I’ll pick it up if I see it on sale or something, and hock the original one.

Man I need new shoes. Maybe I’ll just get some shelltoes again, I’m not really into super-expensive shoes like I was when I was a dumb little kid.

  2. psypsy says:

Very pretty albeit rather naughty =P

  3. Ashlotte says:

Yea if I ever get the money I’d consider getting into the hobby although my interests are more along the traditional non-anime lolita style doll…Less the bondage wearing one you have here… :p

  4. The Endless General says:

Pre-orders for Saber Alter have opened at Hobby Search…….Huzzahdghjhdhfgggghdgkedijduhghj!!!!!!!

Sorry, I’m a little excited lol.

    • Tier says:

Hoorays! Now there is only a short half-year wait till she gets released.

You know, looking around on the interwebs, I kinda thought there’d be more excitement about Saber Alter, but on her Hobby Search page she’s got stuff like “this figure is a halloween joke.” and “Not again a fighting Saber! So boring!” Funky.

      • The Endless General says:

Eh, I don’t care what those people think. Fools I say, FOOLS! But seriously, that wait is going to be agonizing. Let’s also remember the “inevitable delay” factor that will lengthen it. Sigh.

On an unrelated note, E2046 FINALLY shipped my Fei Yan and Jian Xue lol.

        • Shashin says:

I’ll probably preorder the figure myself. It’s Saber Alter from Good Smile Company…. I don’t really think anything more needs to be said.

Speaking of E2046, if you preorder do you have to pay up front right when you preorder, or do you have some time? I’d imagine the first, but just want to know before I go crazy and preorder a bunch of stuff and get stuck with a massive bill. >_>

          • The Endless General says:

No, they only charge you when they ship. I did the same thing when I first bought from them; just went crazy lol. Be warned however, they have some of the most hilariously inaccurate release dates in the cosmos, but their quality makes up for it : )

          • Shashin says:

Awesome, that’s good news. I may preorder a figure or two then. I was worried because my October preorders are already approaching probably $1000. Especially since the $250 Tomoe figure got pushed back to October. :<

        • Tier says:

Yeah, I think both of the Sabers that GSC has recently recently suffered some big delays … if I remember right, Saber Lily got kicked from May of last year to October, and I think jumping Saber got kicked from an early summer release to September. So if that trend holds up, we ought to really be seeing Saber Alter in like, August of next year or something.

I’ve noticed their dates are really slipping, and they don’t seem to update their prospective release dates much now. Though admittedly, I guess updating one incorrect release date with another date that’s probably going to be incorrect isn’t all that useful. I’ve also noticed that their blog posting for their ORI series seems to be slowing down some … I wonder if anything unusual is going on over there?

  5. Sloth says:

I was wondering why you opted to buy a vmf50 (lol sounds like a macross mech) over a dollfie dream. Your preference in clothing explains a lot and I assume you’re more into making her in to someone in your mind rather than try and make her look like any one particular character (from anime).

Is she named after the character from a movie of the same name?

    • Tier says:

I was very tempted to get the Mai Shiranui Dollfie when it was released last year, but funds were kinda short and she didn’t look completely fantastic. I’ll also admit that part of the draw for me is that almost nobody collects vmf50 stuff, whereas everyone collects Dollfies nowadays. But yeah, the main draw is that Yamato makes the stuff I like. I’m not too interested in getting a big balljointed version of an anime character … there’s only a few characters that I’d get a doll version of (Queen’s Blade’s Irma for sure, Haruka or Subaru from Beat Blades Haruka, Dizzy from Guilty Gear, Senhime from Sengoku Rance, possibly Fate T. Harlaown, but I’m not too enamored by her Dollfie version). Part of the fun of getting a big doll is dressing them up, and if I got some existing character and changed its clothes, I’d feel like it weren’t the same character anymore. (I’ll be honest though, I was really tempted to get Azone’s recent 1/3 scale Fate Testarossa doll. I think it uses a 48 or 50 centimeter Obitsu body, and some of the vmf50 stuff might fit her. It would’ve been hilarious to put loli Fate in a bondage harness with a slave collar. The doll was way too expensive for me, though, so I passed.)

I asked some friends for name suggestions and one suggested Simone because he thought it sounded kinda like the name a porn actress would take. I agreed with that, but now that you mention it, I think that I might’ve been thinking about that movie too. I’ve never seen it, but I remember I thought it sounded like a really interesting film way back when I saw the previews on TV, and the name seems quite appropriate … I wonder how well the movie has held up?

      • Sloth says:

A friend of mine recommended the movie a few years back but I’ve yet to get around to seeing it (I’ve actually forgetten all about it until I saw your post). It does sound interesting but there’s only a couple of ways it can go I reckon.

TBH I find DDs a hit and miss. Sometimes they look great with the outfits and may even look like the characters they are representing. Other times they just look like little girls cosplaying that character. A Mai Shiranui DD would have been too far off IMO. She’s know to be the mature bright flame that burns the shape of her backside in to your retina so the childish look of DDs will certainly not suit her.

I totally agree with you that dressing up an existing character with other clothes will take away that look of the character and you’re just left with…random girl I guess?

OMG Fate doll in bondage…that sounds surprisingly enticing.

        • Tier says:

Yeah, I think that was the problem I had with the Mai Shiranui Dollfie, she looks like a little girl, and that’s not a look that fits her too well. Well, I would think that it doesn’t, but I guess I’ve never seen any artwork of such, and now that I imagine it in my filthy, filthy mind, I can think of certain ways that it wouldn’t look that bad. Though taking another look at her Dollfie, her hip joints aren’t all that appealing.

Yeah, I think costume is a very important aspect of a character, maybe the second most important next to the character’s face. For example, I don’t care a great deal for the Evangelion girls’s personalities or characterization, but I love their plugsuits. Take Rei or Asuka out of their plugsuits though, and I don’t find them nearly as appealing. If I were ever to get a Dollfie, it’d probably be Yukino, the base body image girl, since she’s easily available and I could dress her up.

Fate in bondage is great. It’s the whole reason that I got interested in the Nanoha franchise in the first place.

  6. Aka says:

Quite the doll you have there, cameltoe and all as well.

Those are the small breasts? I’d hate to see the large…

The joints on these things still creep me out. I much prefer them with clothing over the joints, I think that’s why Dollfie’s Tohsaka Rin works so well for me, along with their Saber Alter. They have long sleeves, dresses or skirts, but thighhighs as well. This covers up all of the joints you’d otherwise see.

    • Shashin says:

Yeah, the Tohsaka Dollfie is pretty much the only one I’d consider at this point (especially considering how much I like Rin), but even that’s unlikely due to the very high price tag I’ve seen on sites such as Mandarake.

    • Tier says:

Yamato knows how to do things XD Yeah, these are the small breasts, uhh, gee, lemme see if I can find the big ones … here they are.

Yeah, it took me a while to get over the exposed balljoint thing. Well, actually, I guess it didn’t, I’m pretty much a fan of girls in ho-wear even if they do have weird-looking balljoints. I wouldn’t mind a Rin Tohsaka doll but I don’t really dig the Dollfie version’s face all that much; it looks unusually wide. I think Mai Shiranui had the same problem and that was a big reason I didn’t get her (along with the price).

  7. Wow…that is amazing, the details and the bits….

    • Tier says:

Indeed! Yamato did a great job in adapting Obitsu’s doll body. They also did an incredible job with the musculature on the Type B body, though that kinda depends on whether you like girls with muscles …

  8. Fabienne says:

Oh you have also some dolls thats interesting
Well I lately fell in love with DD Nico http://wieselhead.deviantart.com/favourites/#/d2yvfnn

I checked out Yamato’s doll section some time ago
The dolls from them have a more mature look, the Dolfies are more a prestige objekt for rich otaku’s XD (just my opinion don’t hate me for this my dear DD fans)
I like some of them but so far I wouldn’t buy one myself.
It looks like Yamato has really cool clothes, the sm outfit of your figure looks some kind of refreshing, to me she doesn’t look that slutty instead she looks rather cool.
Ok, personally I would dress her up more modest ;D

    • Tier says:

That’s a good looking doll, I like her eyes and her smile. And her chest, which looks quite substantial.

The Dollfies seem to be more of a mainstream thing, and it seems like Volks is mainly going after anime fans or fans of moe girl designs (I think one of them is even named Moe). Yamato seems to be going after the perverts, which is completely fine with me. However, Simone is happy you don’t think she looks like a slut XD

      • Fabienne says:

        Im glad she’s happy XD
I wouldn’t say they are only going after the pervs,it depends on the clothes you put them on, but aside from that the Yamato dolls in fact look more sexy and attractive.

        • Tier says:

Yeah, I guess they’re going for the people who like an edgier sort of fashion, I guess, or a more grown-up look, which is kinda ironic since the vmf50 body is a lot smaller than 60-centimeter bodies.

  9. Chag says:

Whoa there Simone, careful with those nipples — you can poke out an eye with those!

    • Tier says:

Speaking of interaction, Simone needs a master, or a buddy – one with some articulation, unlike the foot-long Mothra larva. I have one on order and I hope it gets here soon, because I’ve got an idea kicking around in my head.

  10. JessyP says:

Wow what a sexy figure. Love the ho clothes. Wish this figure was easier to get. Are there any other figures with a vagina like this one? I’m not very in tune with dolls.

    • Tier says:

Yeah, I wish Yamato would release some of this stuff through their US operations, or at least sell it through HLJ. I’ve heard that the Dollie Dream bodies have a faint slit (God that sounds terrible) but I don’t think they are terribly detailed. There’s the Tokyo Doll (NSFW link) products linked here and above that are interesting, but very, very expensive and they seem to have a huge seam running along the inside of their limbs that looks very unsightly.

      • JessyP says:

Maaaan thanks to you Ive spent too much time this weekend doll shopping. Haven’t settled on one yet, but the 1/6 Tokyo dolls are looking good and more affordable than the 1/3 scale. Trying to figure out which heads will fit on the 1/6 bodies.

        • Tier says:

I’m glad to help you with your new hobby XD Yeah, the prices for the 1/3 bodies are pretty steep. Moeyo has some pics of the 1/6 scale body … uhh, the younger version, anyway. I feel kinda dirty just looking at them, to tell you the truth. You can put that body in some really cool poses though, I must admit.

  11. radiant says:

Nice dolls! I didn’t know you were a doll collector.

One key thing that I don’t like about ball-jointed dolls are… ball joints.
So here, I photoshopped your VMF50 Yumi without ball joints just for kicks and faps.
    http://radiantdreamer.net/wp-uploads/vmf50-yumi_jointless.jpg

    • Tier says:

Wow, that looks great, kicks and faps indeed! XD. That is not actually my doll though, that’s from Yamato’s product page. I wish I had a Yumi doll though, but they pop up pretty infrequently on YJA and not for cheap, either ;_; Though the number one doll item I want is the elusive Dai Sodo, which seems to be sold out across the universe.

      • radiant says:

lol goes to show how much I know about dolls then! Just as well. 😛

At the price points these dolls go for, I’m relieved that I’m not a doll collector of any sort. Though that’s not saying much since I’ve spent so much on PVC figures alone…

        • Tier says:

Yeah, and if the dolls weren’t bad enough, the clothes are ridiculously expensive too, particularly since I’ve got to go through a proxy most of the time. The clothes I get for my doll usually cost more than regular 1/1 scale clothes, which ought to make me shake my head in wonder. Then there’s wacky stuff like the doll-sized leash and collar I’m gonna get for this doll, which is probably gonna run around forty or fifty bucks, including proxy fees and the really crappy exchange rate.

  12. Devil Dan says:

While I like a posable action figure and the idea of removable clothes, I don’t quite like joints on a nude figure and clothes nude out of real fabric with big stitches just seem off to me.

I wonder if a figure with a posable skeleton and a soft exterior that would seamlessly cover the joints would be possible. And clothes made out of a soft stretchy plastic rather than fabric.

    • Devil Dan says:

      *made

    • Tier says:

Yeah, it seems like the balljoints are a pretty big turnoff. It’s kinda funny how Yamato is putting a heavy emphasis on them since a ton of the vmf50 clothing options show a lot of plastic skin.

The Tokyo Doll stuff linked above hides the joints, though I have absolutely no clue how decent the workmanship is or how practical they are for a doll; they’ve got some very prominent seam lines which aren’t too attractive, and I’m not sure how poseable or durable they are. It’d be interesting if someone tried to do that with the clothing, though I don’t know how elastic plastic can be; I’ve got a couple of dolls of Rei and Asuka and they appear to be wearing vinyl clothing, and it’s not too stretchy.

  13. Wolfheinrich says:

It has been a long time since I got a chance to stop by your blog, good to see you finally got a review for your BAD out. Admittedly, Risa looks very good, I am not a big fan of the painted eyes of obitsu but these look good! Nice pussy!

    • Tier says:

The anatomical accuracy of the vmf50 doll is a big draw XD I tend to keep my dolls less clothed but it makes for a pretty good impression when they are wearing shorts and such.

I’ve heard of Volks Dollfie Dreams and Obitsu’s but this is my first time hearing about Yamato’s vmf50. But seeing how much harder it is to get them compared to the others I may just stick with those if I ever decide to go vinyl. For now I’m more of a resin bjd owner. Also Volks does sell DD dolls other then the character ones. You can order them from their Volks USA site. I know you can also go to their Japanese stores and customize one, but I’m not sure if they ship internationally.

I personally find something fun about buying a character doll and not have it be that character. Hehe. I’ll definitely be doing this with a future doll if I can win it in the Volks lottery.

Anyway your girl looks awesome, and I’ll be keeping an eye on your site.

Yeah, vmf50 stuff is still difficult to acquire outside of Japan. Yamato seems to be making some overtures to the overseas market – they put Miu up for sale on their US site and they provide a very partial and limited English version of their website – but I get the sense they’re not too interested in expanding their market to foreigners. I’ll admit their relative rarity kinda increases their appeal to me; it seems like everybody has a Dollfie Dream these days.

Is not the purchase done in Yamato U.S.A.?

Yep, they do have Miu for sale. I bought Risa from a Japan-based retailer, though, and I got Miu from Yahoo Japan Auctions. Hopefully Yamato USA makes it a bit easier to purchase vmf50 dolls and clothing soon.

I love your work, by the way. Thanks for stopping by.

Is there any dolls similar to this one known for being great at posing. I need a drawing doll that can do all kinds of posing. Not just seated in the chair poses. Got any others to recommend.

Hmm, the Obitsu 50cm dolls are said to be quite poseable. I’ve heard some of the older Dollfie Dream dolls are not too flexible, but I think the newer ones are (I know very little about Dollfies, though; if you are curious about them, I will refer you to my man Wolfheinrich, who knows everything about Dollfies and would be much better equipped to answer any questions about them.

For use as a reference work, though, I don’t really know that these dolls or Dollfies would work well. For one thing, neither of them is all that anatomically accurate; both have elongated bodies with very long legs (Dollfies moreso). and relatively short torsos. Since they are so large, they can be a bit unwieldy to handle. Also, any props are usually rather expensive, unless you build them yourselves.

There are a number of 1/6 scale dolls out there that might be a better match to your requirement. Assuming you need a female body, Triad Toys has a few different bodies, including the Alpha female body and the older Evolution/Evalution (male and female bodies, respectively). If you need a more anime-styled body, there are a few options, like Azone’s dolls.

Also, since posing ability is important to you, I’d check Youtube for some doll review videos; many collectors have videos showing how well dolls can pose. Junkyspot has a review of the 50 centimeter Obitsu body which shows how flexible it is (the vmf50 and Angel Philia series of dolls is built off of the same skeleton as that doll, so their poseability is similar).
